On the eve of a major tour the Double Duo were ensconced in the warren of rooms that comprised SIR studios. Working on one of the soundstages, the group were busy polishing their planned set list and fine-tuning the rigs and other technical paraphernalia that goes into putting four musicians onto a concert platform in front of paying punters.
With Adrian Belew taking some time out, Fripp, Gunn and Mastelotto suddenly revert to their P3 persona which they’d occupied during March 1999.
Driven by the V-drums bass preset, Fripp and Gunn undertake a kind of baton-passing approach here. Lines are exchanged and developed at a somewhat leisurely pace with Gunn’s edgy scrabbling across the Warr fretboard contrasting nicely with Robert’s elegiac strings, with Mastelotto deploying some rather circumspect added percussion. Lovely stuff!
