A Whole Lotta Hartford Goin' On June 19, 1996
Written by Mike Stack
Last night was the G3 show in Hartford,
so myself and two of my friends headed over to check out RF, basically. Showed
up around 6pm or so, were checking
out the merchandise when we heard RF starting up. Headed in, checked out the
show. He played from 6-7:20 or so, sat off to my left (we were pretty much dead
centre). Lots of interesting stuff, seemed to be a lot more chordal strumming than
on the albums he's put out. At one point towards the end of RF's set, some
idiot started screaming and yelling and banging the chair in front of him.
Fripp got louder. Idiot got louder. Fripp got louder. Fripp also looked
somewhat annoyed at this point.
A few interesting notes about RF's performance
-most the crowd didn't give a damn, including some guy dressed all snazzily
in his business suit, who didn't shut up the whole night.
-RF occasionally got up, took off his guitar, and walked further to my left
to talk to someone else. Don't know who.
-RF wore a white shirt untucked and black pants, while switching to a black
shirt during the encore (more later...).
-No one smoked anything illegal during Fripp's set, something that couldn't
be said for the rest.

I felt almost sneaky listening to this, as it was obviously "not ready for prime time"; sounds as if TG was learning the timing. Still, great to hear and left me wanting a bit more, as the old showbiz adage Read more

Hooked on RadioPhonics Tue., Dec 9, 2008

I wish DGM would dump the silly star system -- how do you "rate" music like this? How many stars do you have? Give Radiophonics a thousand. This music is the dark to the WFC’s (11/30/2000) Read more

I found my thrill Tue., Dec 9, 2008

OK, SoundScapes are beautiful and deep, mysterious and melancholy, atmospheric and soul-stirring and all that. But this concert shows they can be buckets of fun, too, in their own way. Fripp’s got an odd sense of humor (or humour) and Read more

A peak soundscape performance Tue., Nov 25, 2008

While following the same general structure as the other soundscapes in the general time zone of this perfformance, this particular performance finds the heart of that structure and releases a fascinating interplay of tone and temperaments Read more

I Quite Like It Fri., Oct 31, 2008

Though apparently this is edited down, it’s music allowed to ebb and flow at some length, which is the quality I enjoy most in Fripp’s Soundscapes (and Frippertronics) work. Nice. Had I been at the Bath train station, I would Read more

It was a big surprise to hear the embryonic version of Level 5 in ’Thank You".
No doubt: the works for/with David Sylvian was seminal.
Thanks you.
