Toad's Place New Haven, CT |
     I was there! November 2, 2011
Written by jackeast
I was at this performance - still have my ticket stub! I also recorded part of this show on a microcassette player in my shirt pocket, but I was right up front and didn’t want to make a scene flipping the tape, so I only got about 30 minutes on my tape. I am so glad this full recording is available, and the quality is quite good - well worth $10 - rather ironic since the ticket for the show was only $6.50. It’s great to re-experience this performance 28 years later! I had seen King Crimson at Toad’s the previous year, and it remains a highlight of many excellent shows I saw at this venue during the 1980s!

Let The Power Fall - Part 2 Tue., May 25, 2010
Posted by: LouieB
Once again, DGMLive has struck gold with the unearthing of some excellent vintage Frippertronics loops from Mr. Robert Fripp - this time from the WMCF Studios in Rochester NY. There are many similarities between this and the official Frippertronics Read more

Stunning!!!! Mon., May 24, 2010

Excellent!!! It’s a kind of excitiment that refers back to the Fripp & Eno days but which you will not find in in the soundscapes of Fripp’s later days. I can see the development of soundcapes but I do prefer Read more

musicality Wed., May 19, 2010

This is very interesting musically on its own, and likewise interesting historically in the context of Fripp solo work/performances. The guitar sound is not like Frippertronics or pre 75 Crimson. Sometimes it is like it is in League of Read more

Not so ill-fated... Sat., May 8, 2010

Some of the ideas one can hear there seem to be further developed in collaboration with Trey Gunn. We can hear them on earlier-published-there Proto Punk track (rf19921211-0101). It is good that such tunes are not Read more

And if I’m not mistaken, the opening ascending line was also played by Tony/Trey at the beginning of Seizure on the Roar of P4...

A Lovely Piece Sun., Mar 28, 2010

This is a lovely and delicate piece. It reminds me a bit of the tone poems on Eno’s Another Green World. As a previous reviewer noted, this piece varies from the Frippertronics/Soundscapes approaches we may have heard more Read more

Interesting Snapshot Wed., Mar 24, 2010

As others have said, this really doesn’t sound like either Frippertronics or Soundscapes. Both of them usually involve shifting harmonies and rhythms due to the looping Read more

How strange the change! Wed., Mar 24, 2010

I used to listen to Piccadilly Radio (261AM) growing up through the 1980’s & whilst I don’t remember hearing this when it would have been broadcast, at that time I would have switched it off without Read more
