     SOUND VISION WORD

Entry, First Avenue, Minneapolis   June 20, 1984
Written by Mark Newstrom

The concert was preceded by various videos, one of which was Andy Summers and Robert Fripp performing (?) from "I Advance Masked."  The ballerinas were lovely and lithe, I can't say anything about the guitarists.

The concert was pure joy, including three moments seared in my memory:
Moment A)

Having just finished a number ("Elephant Talk" I believe), Adrian addressed the crowd:
AB: So do you like the weird stuff?
Aud: YEA, applause, etc.
AB: Well I do too..
At this point, AB makes another strange guitar noise, but his reaction is total dismay; not the sound he expected.  He then realizes he's been had, and looks over to see RF almost falling off his stool trying to contain himself.

AB: That's Fripp 3, Belew 2... (audience erupts laughing and clapping)
Moment B) Robert absolutely shredding the guitar/violin solo section in "Lark's Tongues in Aspic, part II."  Certainly seemed that "the Muse had descended."
Moment C) no flashes, a receptive audience, Robert stays on with the band at the end.  We all salute each other. . .

I am a happy fan having this little arrangement downloaded some years ago from P@s homepage. This version available is a little bit shorter, as the "slowing down" main theme of red at the end of the piece was edited Read more

Finally, another show from the Fall 2003 tour, until now represented only by the incomparable Kingston concert. Really like PM’s percussion/sample interludes here -- nice atmospheres. I could take a lot more of this kind of Read more

I’m puzzled by the previous reviewer’s complaint of "distortion in the drum beats" -- I don’t hear any distortion through my speakers (headphones either). Maybe the reviewer’s speakers were blown, or he just isn’t used to the sound of Read more
