Written by TheWinkler

My grandfather should be 105 by now but he died at 97. He was an excellent musician that could have been professional, but his family forced him to be an architect.

He founded the first Jazz orchestra in Barcelona in 1927, called Tribu Universitaria and played sax (imported from the US as there were no saxes in Europe then) and violin, among other instruments.

When he come home, I always played him some of my favourite prog music, he quite liked some of it, other bored him to death. Dispite his violin expertise, he never enjoyed David Cross playing i.e.

But I still remember the first time I played In the Court of the Crimson King to him. After only 20 seconds of playing his face litghtened and he exclamed in his Spanish jazzy language: Qué "drums"!!!! (What a drum player!!!!).

Thank you Alex, for bringing this back to my mind. Dispite what Mr. Fripp says, I think that Michaels playing in 21st, ITCOCK and Epitaph, can’t get any better.

Pianoscapes and smaller details   Tue., Feb 15, 2011

This is a wonderful-sounding recording of a performance from a very experimental period in soundscapes. With its sparser tones and a prominence of piano synth notes, it’s a rather stark, minimalist, but still wonderfully moody Read more

Lovely   Mon., Feb 14, 2011

I have downloaded quite a few soundscapes and i think this one is quite lovely, sort of a quiet space inbetween the churchscapes, the darker soundscapes earlier in the 1990s and even a little of the guitar timbre of no Read more

I’ve been enjoying these samples and freebies over the last few years, and this download is piquing my interest in the entire album. I love the strings and harmonized vocals. Read more

It drones on and on and on...   Wed., Feb 9, 2011

… Wonderfully... Remarkably... Crimheads often delve in counterfactual history and muse about such topics as “What if the ’69 band stayed together and did another album?” or “What if Ian Mac rejoined the band after Red and Crim Read more

I came to see King Crimson (for the first time) and left fulfilled.  They were touring on the strength of "Starless and Bible Black."  Robin Trower, the opening act, was really solid, too, especially his fine (now late) singer, Jame Read more

More terrific LOG   Thu., Feb 3, 2011

There is a strange eccentricity about LOG that has me smiling on the greyest of days and this collection is no exception. Inductive Resonance with its highly effusive c minor hookline and astonishingly fast middle section is probably the Read more

While I enjoyed the music and couldn’t stop myself from playing ’spot the theme’ the thing that surprised me about this excerpt was how it made me laugh. There’s a wonderful energy between T-Lev and Trey on show Read more

Addendum   Tue., Jan 25, 2011

I’ve nothing to add to the other superlatives here, but I want to note one thing about this recording that no one else seems to mention: David Cross’s mellotron was largely missing in action for much of the Read more

Soft Gun Poison is of course No Pussyfooting. Here is a sanitised version of a bootleg I was unaware of and the fairy dust must be a good batch because this might have been recorded last Read more
