Entry, First Avenue, Minneapolis June 20, 1984
Written by Mark Newstrom
The concert was preceded by various videos, one of which was Andy Summers and Robert Fripp performing (?) from "I Advance Masked." The ballerinas were lovely and lithe, I can't say anything about the guitarists.
The concert was pure joy, including three moments seared in my memory: Moment A)
Having just finished a number ("Elephant Talk" I believe), Adrian addressed the crowd: AB: So do you like the weird stuff? Aud: YEA, applause, etc. AB: Well I do too.. At this point, AB makes another strange guitar noise, but his reaction is total dismay; not the sound he expected. He then realizes he's been had, and looks over to see RF almost falling off his stool trying to contain himself.
AB: That's Fripp 3, Belew 2... (audience erupts laughing and clapping) Moment B) Robert absolutely shredding the guitar/violin solo section in "Lark's Tongues in Aspic, part II." Certainly seemed that "the Muse had descended." Moment C) no flashes, a receptive audience, Robert stays on with the band at the end. We all salute each other. . .

There seems to be a bubbling enthusiasm throughout the set, T Lev positively bouncing out those notes during Thela before Bobby Willcox comes to the fore and it’s a welcome addition to my double-trio Read more

Really together performance right from the top, just as the description says. Mix begins heavier on guitars than drums, which makes Tony & Trey’s parts especially audible -- just the sort of emphasis appreciated when hearing a string Read more

Maybe the best documented performance by this lineup in 1972. Exceptional performances of Pictures & Schizoid Man. The audience really gets into it too; they’re especially appreciative of Mel. The audio isn’t great, but it’s Read more
