This music, while great, shows that RF would not have been a very effective fusion guy (assuming that "fusion guy" was a title to which he would have aspired).

To me personally, I now understand why 81-84 Crim rarely goes six weeks without getting some play in my home, while Bruford’s One Of A Kind gets the once a year treatment, and the answer is most emphatically NOT that the latter is anything less than fantastic music performed by musicians who mean it.

The key difference, IMO, is originality. 81-84 KC has it to the extent that the music does not lend itself to categorization. BB’s work with Jeff Berlin, on the other hand, is fusion.

Not so ill-fated...   Sat., May 8, 2010

Some of the ideas one can hear there seem to be further developed in collaboration with Trey Gunn. We can hear them on earlier-published-there Proto Punk track (rf19921211-0101). It is good that such tunes are not Read more

Sort of a "missing link" between Show Of Hands and Intergalactic Boogie Express - live in Europe 1991, this CD actually used to be on sale at 1991 Europe shows and, occasionally, at GC Read more

Beyond Crimson   Sun., Mar 28, 2010

Great improvised music. Chaos gives us some intense guitar and fractured flute. Field of Green floats on soprano sax like an outtake from an ECM album. The Unquestioned Answer starts out knotted and fluttery and builds to Read more

New music   Sun., Mar 28, 2010

This is a beautiful collaboration. The expansion of textures provided by flute and sax take the soundscapes to another place, and Travis and Fripp really seem to be listening to each Read more

A Lovely Piece   Sun., Mar 28, 2010

This is a lovely and delicate piece. It reminds me a bit of the tone poems on Eno’s Another Green World. As a previous reviewer noted, this piece varies from the Frippertronics/Soundscapes approaches we may have heard more Read more

Interesting Snapshot   Wed., Mar 24, 2010

As others have said, this really doesn’t sound like either Frippertronics or Soundscapes.  Both of them usually involve shifting harmonies and rhythms due to the looping Read more
