We Were There February 26, 2012
Written by rabbimeyer
"Our drummer, Bruford, would like to thank the two guys from Baton Rouge from two years ago ... and all the rest of you, too." And with that, KC launched Red. I just downloaded this show, I hope the banter is on there! Dave, Brian, Geo and cousin Russ were there, too, that strange night 28 years ago ... and thanks Auntie Grace, for letting us crash on your floor. I know you didn’t expect a bunch of heads at your place at midnight, but you were a trooper! Poplar Creek had sold "packages" that summer (four or five different shows grouped together and sold at a "discount") and, by my recollection, they packaged KC with Rick Springfield and some other pop acts to make for a strange collection (who’d you pair them up with to begin with?). So there were a number of folks there because they had the tickets, but no experience with the band. I trust Entry -> Larks Tongues ->Thela was a nice introduction. Elvis Brothers opened and having seen them as "just" a party band in Madison, I was quite impressed with their show, even having fun with us by "playing to type" (not). Fire in the City indeed. I was able to trade for this bootleg right when classes started in Madison that next fall (and thanks to the clerk at Wazoo Records in Madison for trading!) When friends who saw the next KC show (in Milwaukee) heard the tape, they were disappointed that they hadn’t gone to this show. And I am pleased that I am able to support the artists by purchasing the download here. If you have Absent Lovers, you don’t "need" Poplar Creek (and vice versa, I guess) but I think the Poplar Creek show was "better" and I’m trying to judge by quality, not because I was there.

This is a very welcome release for fans of the Discipline line-up. The sound quality is a bit unbalanced and inconsistent, but is quite good for an audience recording. The enthusiasm of the crowd actually adds to the Read more

I suspect that the reason I am so enamoured of this lineup (well and the double trio as well) is that I was thoroughly and completely unprepared when I walked into the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby with my best Read more

The Sound is Fine! Performance is Better. Fri., May 19, 2006

The sound quality of this release is fine and the performance stellar. This is 80s KC as a belting-it-out rock band with more energy on display than any of the other 1980s recordings that I have of Read more
