      I Was There! February 7, 2012
Written by sfstinson
Too bad the recording of the April 28, 1974 concert is incomplete. I was in attendance that night, along with my band mates. The concert was opened by Aerosmith, which we all found to be a rather strange coupling.
My recollection is that, right after Bob asked the dude screaming down front to "... curb your enthusiasm, sir...", as evidenced by the "RF Announcement" track here, Crimson ripped into "Larks Tongue in Aspic - Part 1" and topped off the night with an encore rendition of "21st Century Schizoid Man". There may have been another song in there somewhere, but is was nearly 38 years ago for me, and, while the excellence of that night’s performance is as fresh a memory as if it had been only last week, memorizing set lists has never been my strong suit.

The sound quality from the cassette, as you’ll notice from the samples, is significantly better than the cassette that was the source of "Earthbound". Its still short of a high speed reel recording and you’ll hear some hiss in the Read more

Awful? Yikes. That’s a bit harsh me thinks. Anything that I can get my hands on from this band is worth the price. I remember years ago starving for material from this era and now its all over Read more

Another incomplete show.... But full price.... I don’t understand that!!!!
Track 1-4: awful, but track: 5-9: very good.
In my opinion: nothing special.

Lovely snippet of late 73-74 Crim--Fripp is very playful on this show--Easy Money and Lament, in particular. Bruford is manic and always interesting (how many drummers to you actively tune into when listening to a rock group--many provide a backbeat Read more

can't beat any performance with this line up! Sun., Dec 16, 2007

For me, this was the finest incarnation of Crimson. I equate their performances with the finest live jazz (ie Miles, Coltrne, Evans, etc.) and you can’t go wrong with any of the fine DGM releases from this Read more
