Where is Sartori in Tangier and Heartbeat? February 3, 2009

I have seen bootleg versions of this show out there that have Heartbeat and Sartori in Tangier as the encore. Why weren’t these two songs included? Did no tape exist of these songs? I am pretty sure a radio broadcast version with these to songs is out there on bootleg. If someone knows anything about this please explain.

Berkeley’s Greek Theater is one of my favorite venues and I was ecstatic to see KC for the first time there. My favorite memories of the night were, in no particular order:

~ The beginning section where the band came out one person at a time as "Waiting Man" built up.
~ Adrian raising his pantleg up, exposing his red socks when introducing "Red."
~ "Howler" and "Neurotica" were songs I didn’t really appreciate until seeing them performed at this show.
~ I had nearly played my copy of "Discipline" to death by this time and all of those songs were absolutely superb!

Thanks to every one at DGM for offering this to the public. This was truly a magical evening with four incomparable musicians.

pls don’t convert these pristine, crispy .flac files into crappy mp3s and trade them.

I am so glad I found this site!
I didn’t attend this night, but I was at the Greek Theatre 2 nights previous.
The Greek is an outdoor amphitheatre nestled in the Hollywood hills. It was a beautiful night and I was so excited to see The Crim as my boyfriend called them. He was a fan since Court of the Crimson King, and I’d just become a fan with Discipline.
Because of my work schedule, I wasn’t sure I could go, so my borfriend and his buddy got their tickets. Then I found out I could go and I got my ticket for myself.
Good thing I did because as a single ticket, I ended up IN THE CENTER TENTH ROW!!!
I was delighted when the show started and Adrian Belew walked out to this little wooden box and started playing the opening of "Waiting Man", one of my favorite songs from the album. He was joined by Fripp, the Levin, and then Bruford.
In the years since, whenever anyone asks me to name the best concerts I’ve ever seen, this is the first one that comes to mind.
Each of the guys was absolutely stellar in their musicianship. All of them played their asses off. And I gloated all the way home because...well...I WAS IN THE CENTER TENTH ROW!!!

This is a FINE collection of music. I had the great pleasure of seeing the band during this time period, (1984-Mpls,MN.) and the set list contained many of the songs heard here. All I can say is I WANT MORE! With all the garbage out there, these guys are trying to do it right. They have achived the goal.

What a delight to have the 8/13/82 Greek Theatre show here and available to download for FREE, no less, on the 25th anniversary of that fateful show when I was 15 and deemed too young (and presumably too female) to travel with a cousin to Berkeley from my native Las Vegas to see my favorite band. Bah. How I waited for his return to tell me of this incredible show... good things come to those to wait, as I have had the subsequent pleasure of seeing KC many times.

This is just amazing! The sound is very good, the tracks as we remember them from the original cd’s are totally different, and the band plays togheter as good as ever.

This goes not only for THIS album I’ve downloaded, but for all. Let people buy quality misic this way, and the "grey" sites that offers download for nothing or for a couple of US $ will be gone.

Thank you Robert for offering this stellar performance of my favourite crims lineup of all time. The band is in top form. The playing is flawless and the songs flow nicely at a quick pace. The band sound very comfortable together. Thela Hun Ginjeet is of particular note, as it is very lyrically different than the album version and musically it sounds more savage. I disagree with many of the reviews about the good sound quality. It is a bit poor and lacks fidelity and headroom, especially in the first half of the show. The lower volume passages sound best, but when the volume increases it sounds like it’s heading into the red. Recording speed sounds like it tends to vary at spots creating a flange effect on the guitars.The mix however is great and captures the essence of the band. All the instruments are upfront and present. Amazing show! Thank you again for this rare gift.

I did not have the oppurtunity to see the Crim during this time period, but thank you to Mr. Fripp for making this download available. I really feel that this is the future with artists having complete control over their material and the format of it’s release. I did get to see the "double trio" Crim on the Thrak tour, but the trio of 80’s albums will always have a special place in my memory. Thanks again! Oh, the performance and recordings are excellent!

I also attended this show - and got in for free! I was hanging around the venue, with no money for a coke much less a ticket inside, and somebody at the front of the line just gave me one. Watcehd it from 5th row center & discovered I had a new favorite band.

And now I get to exprience it again - for free???

The fates are kind, sometimes.

First of all a mighty thank you for this free show. Very generious of Mr.Fripp.I was always partial to the 73/74 line up,but after seeing the live material from this line up in 1981,i was hooked! Sound quality is crisp an clear,but the performance is hot. Getting this for free is a plus,but it is still worth the ridiculously low price offered in both download styles. Thanks again.

Discipline and Beat. Now all I need is a 1984 show for some TOAPP and I’m in HEAVEN!!! When, oh when, will we get to see Robert, Tony, Adrian and Bill(??) again? All in good time I guess...

Discipline is one of my favorite albums and I am so grateful that you allow me to obtain a free copy of this amazing live set, and from the year i was born no less! Thank you.

First, I’d like to say thank you to RF & co. for this free offering; very generous. I’ve spent the last week (January 1-5 2007) listening to the 7.30.82 show from Club 26 and, as I listen to this performance from 2 short weeks after, what strikes me is the often startling differences of mood & approach that some of the same tracks assume in this abbreviated time period. "The Sheltering Sky" from this show is joyfully erratic in comparison to the somewhat more restrained and reflective version performed in Philadelphia on July 30th. Also, "Thela Hun Ginjeet" takes on a different feel here with it’s taped intro featuring Belew explaining his frightening street encounter in New York to his bandmates. This version of Crimson always delivers the goods and pumps an extra dose of adrenalin into the live set to propel the songs into a tight fury that the studio versions more than hint at. Levin masterfully finds an exciting place and makes his presence known amidst Belew & Fripp’s interlocking guitar puzzle pieces and it’s all held down (and sometimes not) by Bruford who’s unpredictable drumming nature serves this band where others would simply fail, lost in the beautiful confusion of the demanding pieces Crimson manages to conjure. I play guitar among other instruments, sing and so on and yet I always find I am amazed at the dexterity with which these 4 men played. The songs on this set are refreshing; they sound like they could go anywhere like birds in the sky suddenly changing course together. For me, that’s the sign of a great band; one that understands the transient nature of music and holds on for dear life.

I love to find recordings of shows I have attended. It helps keep the memories strong. Almost been 25 years since this performance. This is going stright to the top of my listening list. Thank you very much for opening your archieves.

To me, 80’s Crimson was one of the most interesting times. In my opinion, with maybe the exception of In the Court, Discipline is Crimson’s most complete and best album. The album still sounds modern, it was wildly different to hear Robert play this way, and the entire album fits together as if it were a single piece. Robert always talks about the album failing to convey the power of live performance, and in the case of almost every Crimson album, he is right. But Discipline is different I think. This performance doesnt feel the same as the album. The Philidelphia KCCC is a good recording, but also still isnt the same. Another reviewer mentioned the difference between the ’81 and ’82 line up. This may be valid. I guess thats a reason for me to go download an ’81 performance.

Thanks for the chance to upgrade my worn out 3rd gen tape of this show. Excellent sound of a good show played at a treasure of a venue! Another live Howler to add to the collection. Looking foward to another year of great downloads.

I attended this presentation as well... In fact, I attended all KC presentations at the Old Woldorf in 1981 and each performance at the Greek in 1982... What do I remember most?.. Well, I remember a very, very happy RF and connected KC in 1981... and what appeared to be a very unhappy RF, and disconnected KC in 1982.... though the playing was special as always in both years.

In 1981, there was a handshaking/love vibe with the band.. in 1982, there was separation... again, I enjoyed both years.. and I value the sound of loving connectivity.

I cherish anytime I can witness greatness regardless. This recording represents KC as they were then.

I was fortunate enough to attend this show, and quite happy to hear after all these years that my memories are supported by the evidence. The Greek is my all-time favorite venue, and this was a wonderful show. Waiting Man was played with such obvious joy. Thank you to all at DGM for this addition to the Library. DOWNLOADS RULE OK!
