After repeated listenings of this performance, I’ve encountered a unique moment in Loop II (without solo) at about 1:50 seconds into it, where a particularly haunting note sends me into another world. The hair stands up on my arm. Beyond words it is so beautiful. Just tremendous.

This is a lovely recording--I’d have given it 4.5 stars if I could have--and it’s wonderful to hear the synced solos. You don’t get the full effect of a Frippertronics performance with just the loops. I attended a 1979 performance (at Second Chance in Ann Arbor, Michigan), and Fripp took himself out of the loop for brief solos during the creation of the first loop. The second set consisted of him soloing over a playback of the first loop. I assume that was his standard practice. So my question is, were there such solos played during the creation of these loops? If so, this is an incomplete record of the performance (but it’s great to hear the solos over the loops, so I’m not complaining). As I said, not a complaint, just a question.

Another stunning, resonant edition of Frippertronics. I hope they keep them coming. There were 2 Toronto shows at the Bathurst St Theatre, including one where Fripp played a bit of Purple Haze by the late great Jimi Hendrix, that I would love to listen to, for example. If I could hear a full tour, I likely would.
This music is quite beautiful and it resonates deep into my bones. It is also rather interesting and somewhat unique in that it is only fully realized in a live context (which is partly why these recordings seem so precious). The few studio iterations of Frippertronics have the loops, which are in themselves beautiful forms, but the inclusion of the solos is like the moment when the form of the body expresses the divine — fleeting, sometimes imperfect, but always sublime.
This is is truly art: it changes you.

For years the only Frippertronic releases were confined to just a few albums. Of course a few more were made available here over the last couple years- but I’m really excited about the last 2 recordings being made available in such a short span of time. Both are fabulous and I hope there’s more to come.

We perched on the steps of the church and listened to Robert perform from there, I forget if we were too broke to get in or it was sold out. Not the best part of town back then, but being by the church and hearing this music certainly put us in another time and space. I look forward to hearing this reel tape recording.
A couple of months later we would venture to the Savoy, but that was another story.

If anyone’s got a copy of the crappy ol’ boot from this night, please place it in the nearest garbage receptacle you can lay hands on, and download this show. Someone else has described this as "a keeper". Too right. Sublime. Irresistible. Great to hear the accompanying solos, too. This won’t be far from my CD player for the foreseeable future. A real treat.

Of all the official DGM Frippertronics shows released so far (Nov. 24, 2010) this is my favorite. The loops are wonderfully engaging. The solos are sublime. The sound quality is five-star (excellent). If you’re on the fence about this one, don’t hesitate. This one’s a keeper, one you’ll listen to repeatedly. I can tell already, after only 2 1/2 listenings, that this show will become part of regular musical regimen.
With the preparation for official release of the May 25, 1978 Fripp and Eno Paris show my hope is strengthened that DGM might see fit to release what is my absolutely favorite Frippertronics show- Feb.2, 1978 NYC, The Kitchen. It, like the Paris Fripp & Eno, has been widely bootlegged. Come on DGM, I’ve been wanting to give you my money for this show for decades, even though I’ve had a recording of it for years. ANY Frippertronics shows are welcome and appreciated. This latest release is at the top of the heap. We can only hope that future solo Frippertronics releases will continue. - bring on the ’79 (Pretzel en Chaine, Cafe Campus, CKOI - there must have been something about Montreal in August that year that helped produced some great music)

I was in college when Mr. Fripp was performing his Frippertronic shows hither and yon. It is such a joy to be able to finally hear them. I encourage the good folks at DGM to continue presenting these gorgeous shows.
