It’s a quaint period piece that dances around the basic melody of the carol. Although shorter in time than one would like, the basic synopsis of the song shines through among the ’blips and dronings’ of Fripertronics.

It’s a great piece of seasonal Frippery - a ’must have’ for your Holiday library!

Wow! Thanks for this.

I’d long heard about RF’s "Silent Night" in collectors’ listings, but hitherto it proved as elusive as the proverbial hen’s teeth or rocking horse doody!

My 1980 copy of "Volume: The International Discography of the New Wave"[!] tells me that "Silent Night a la Frippertronics" (as it was called) was originally on a RED flexidisc (102579X5) given away with the Vol.1, No.2, December 1979 edition of "Praxis Magazine" and, as you mention, was also sent out as a Christmas card (1979) by EG Management in a folded sleeve/card. Does anyone know what the ’packaging’ looked like for either of these versions?

Robert’s listing in the aforementioned publication goes on to describe him thus:

"Robert Fripp... Ex KING CRIMSON gtr, collaborator, producer. Now working in parallel veins [sic] w/his tape loop electronics and a dance band called THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN..."

Like "Easter Sunday" before it, this track, which was, for those keeping score, also released as part of the "sex, sleep. eat, ..." ep, is a beautiful Frippertronics miniture, which has always deserved a larger audience.

The perfect gift from DGM.

I was talking about this Frippertronics "Silent Night" just last night, after accompanying my friend on piano with ukulele on our own version . What better way to conclude a Christmas sing-along? A very valuable flexi to me all these years. Kills me every time I hear it. Even gives deconstruction a good name.

I got this a couple of years ago as a track at the end of a cd single - Sex, Sleep, you know the one I mean. It is a wonderful version and well worth appropriating. The start of it is enough to make even the most Scrooge-like warm up to Christmas. Kudos, thanks and Merry Christmas to you Mr. Fripp!
