If the performance began tentatively, then a certainty and a "holding of the space" is in effect when At The End of Time is performed. The themes... colors... moods... are introduced with a deliberate sureness and emotion. In this music with its long, slow rhythm, it’s a subtler challenge for the listener to feel the timeliness and the "rightness" of the changes... there being no obvious cue for the appearance of a "hook" coming in right on time as in rock or pop music. Nevertheless those moments are there and can be felt. The experience is not so much an immediate, obvious surface impact on the senses as it is an unfolding and a kind of sitting-with the music, but that’s probably obvious to anyone who enjoys this music. The instrumental voices Fripp uses have a power...at times coming out from a muted voice, into a rich, passionate and electric full expression. The evocative power of those voices across their dynamic range is another one of the rewards of listening to this music. Thanks.
