Recently, I got the last ProjeKct IV download in Portland where "Drum & Bass" just kicks ass and does not only refer to the genre that was so popular in avantgarde techno circles at the time but also refers to the improv techniques of the likes of Miles Davis and the Crimson King himself. But most of all, it was a CURRENT show. And so, a couple of years later, more based in but not limited to it at all in the rock genre: this concert. I am not the type of getting all the different versions of one tour of a group. But when I listened to this concert last night, it just blew me away. Again, it refers to so many different things and musical genres and yet is defintely Crimson and a very, very current production. All interpretations, even the ones from the then just relasesd TPTB are different and old classics such as "Red" and "Elephant Talk" just blend in the overall architecture. "Dangerous Curve" -- my personal favorite of their so far last release -- is a real stomper as well and for the first time ever I actually like "Prozac Blues," which did not convince me when it came out. Oh well, when I listen to that, it makes me sad that KC might be no longer. But at the same time I very grateful, for what we had, enjoying every minute of it.

There’s something nicely different about this performance. Yes there are some clams, but these don’t detract from the overall energy of the gig. Red, a track I’ve been ambivilant about until now, comes through loud and clear. It’s a revelation.

21.40 Hotel More Acceptable Than Fukuoka, Nagoya. From a bedroom in this hotel, while on tour with The RFSQ in 1993, I looked out and saw a restaurant on the other side of the street: a fairly modest restaurant, and surely not quite worthy of the patronage of Trey & myself on our day off. So, we walked around Nagoya in search of a more deserving establishment. After perhaps two hours of walking we stopped for cake, then set off again. We discovered a restaurant in an arcade that featured, as if often the case in Japanese restaurants, a fish tank with tasty meals awaiting selection by clients. In this tank was a fairly large fish, and a fairly large crab. The fish was somewhat inactive, the crab more active: it was slowly eating the fish alive. A good part of the fish's head had gone and, as we watched, the crab was eating its left eye. We moved on. Four hours after setting off, we arrived at the restaurant visible from the bedroom, the one not quite worthy of our attention. Sitting inside, Trey & I were unable to decipher anything from the menu - no English, only characters - so we took the matron outside & pointed at our choice of meals from the plastic replicas, of dishes on offer, in the window. For some reason, we amused the matron. She laughed loudly at us. Then, perhaps to share the joy, she went to the kitchen and brought out her two daughters to show us off to them. They laughed too. Then, all three went back to the kitchen laughing loudly, without any embarrassment nor attempt to conceal that we were the subjects of their laughter. The meal was good, we paid & left, with matron & daughters continuing to laugh loudly at us as we left. Tonight, the aftershow meal was the best of the tour. The performance: the sound of the stage was solid & this helped enormously. A few new wrinkles on Clams Crimsonique but not sufficient to de-run the overall performance. For me: incremental programme changes & a new stool: a four-legged drum stool. Yippee! A supportive & generous audience.
