Alex “Stormy” Mundy has been rummaging through the Beat multi-tracks to come up with an interesting remix of Heartbeat that spotlights some of the song’s signature components as well as some of its less well-known parts that didn’t quite make it through the original mix; Fripp’s Roland keyboard has more than a shade of LOG’s Barry Andrews’ poptastic organ-playing about it.

Having access to the individual tracks, Mister Stormy, himself a drummer, enabled him to replace Bill Bruford’s electronic hi-hat click and largely replace it with the bass drum, noting that “It is on the the 2 and 4 of the bar, which along with Tony's bass part, gives it a more reggae feel, in my opinion.”

A spacious and subtle re-orientation of the track, the bloom of faded-in harmonics and backwards guitar at the end is pure bliss.

The Point?
King Crimson doing a reimagined version of an earlier piece of music can be a wonderful thing. Someone doing a remix of a standing piece of music is like doing a remake of a classic movie... somewhat interesting, but usually begs the question... what’s the point? Just one opinion of one older musician and composer that doesn’t mean to disregard ’the point’ that other listeners might appreciate. JQ

this is fantastic!!!!!!! like the Neurotica remix this sheds some new light on the particular song. i am very serious...this could lead to a major release of an entire album of remixed 1980s versions.  i am sure it would get rave reviews!!!! p.s. this time the "release date" for this version is also the "now," i.e. june 2016), which acknowledges mr. stormy’s remix as such, i.e. as an independent version of this song--as it should be...
