You can now nab yourself two vintage bits of Crimso history via DGMLive. First up is the historic Hyde Park gig which helped bring the band to much wider world, and their next-day gig at the Marquee from their legendary run at the London club. Please note both of these gigs (with bonus tracks) are available as part of the King Crimson Collectors' Club series via the mail order shop.

Travis & Fripp & Shallal

Blue Calm by Travis and Fripp will be amongst the music used by the dance theatre group, Shallal (of which RF is a patron) on Monday 28th March and 30th March in performances at Falmouth Art Gallery.
Both performances on the 28th and 30th are at 2.00 p.m. Here's the details.
Shallal Dance Theatre’s new work, Chromatic, funded by Feast, explores relationships through the lens of black and white photographs from the current Masters of Photography exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery.
The new improvisations are in response to the images and collaborative work with visiting artist Deana Holloway. The work is as varied as the music, the music ranges from local artist Jacqui Callis, composer Roger Pinsent, to Tina Turner and Robert Fripp.
The gallery provides an intimate space to watch the performance and we hope you can come along.
On Wednesday Shallal are joined by some of the Falmouth community group Friends and Dancing who have only been working for a year and have already performed at Eden ! including a solo impovisation by Carol Andrew with local guitarist Jamie Mills ( who also work together in Shallal’s Penryn group).

As you can see, Holger has been enjoying All I Know - a 2 disc career-spanning anthology by Theo Travis. You can read my take on the album over on the blog.

Elijah writes "Not sure if people in these parts are big Coheed & Cambria fans, but this interview mentions good ol’ KC. Apparently their guitar player thinks that KC has a pop element. Anyone agree?"

Six Of The Best

There’s no new download today but we thought it would be a good idea to give a shout out to six of our favourite concerts that you may have missed.
King Crimson November 25th 1972 - The Larks’ Tongues quintet doing their crazy Mr. Muir gig thing in Oxford.
We said “Although only the first section of the concert was caught on bootleg cassette this recording is nevertheless stone-cold, drop-dead classic Crim of the highest calibre, and arguably one of the best performances given by the Larks’ Tongues quintet.”
You said “The performances are outstanding. The version of "Larks’ Tongues In Aspic Part 1" included here rivals the studio version, maybe even exceeds in intensity. The improv is very enjoyable, one of the best I’ve heard from this lineup.”
King Crimson March 19th 1974 - In which the Crims unveil and retire a new song all in one gig
We said “Sometime between December 1973 and March 1974 King Crimson came up with a number called Guts On My Side...only ever played once in concert - as far as we can tell - and totally forgotten about until 2006.
You said “Man, this is an amazing gig. This shit is just on fire! You’ll never hear a more intense "Exiles", the improv is wildly intense, and it has a cool little song you won’t find anywhere else.”
Robert Fripp June 18th 1979 - Small, mobile, intelligent unit knocks the ball out of the park!
We said “we hear bleeping and droning; rhapsodic flourishes; echoes of No Pussyfooting and Evening Star; the theme from Starless and a cavalcade of notes leaping from those fingers...Stunning.”
You said “I was at this show and it was my first (of now many) live experiences with RF. Watching Robert perform with just his guitar and a tape machine in the back of a record store was amazing. I had always wished I could relive this show and what do you know, here it is.”
League of Gentlemen September 21st 1980 - a blueprint and a toe-tapper all in one
We said “Simply put what you have here is the best part of an hour filled with killer riffs and extraordinary out-there guitar, nattily dressed up as pile-driving music for those who like to dance with a twist of dissonance.”
You said “Well, what a nice surprise. And what a fantastic download/CD! Mixing postpunk splintered rhythms with discordant organ and fluid & inventive guitar, this is even better than the offical live recording previously released.”
King Crimson November 23rd 1981 - the shock of the new continues to drop jaws at 500 paces
We said “Sartori In Tangier features Fripp on his trusty Roland organ and Belew making monster noises along the stage make this a surging, raging version you’re unlikely to forget in a hurry.”
You said “I've always looked back at this - my first King Crimson show - as the best concert I’ve ever attended. Such an energetic presentation of the new line-up and new material to eager L.A. fans. I’d only heard Red before this show. I was impressed by the clean, crisp deliberate playing and this recording captures it well. It’s a small club, like they are in your living room, confident you’ll like a fresh direction in rock.”
King Crimson August 15th 2001 - a slice of smouldering Crim with intense icing to go!
We said “A highly-charged gig where the team blow the doors off the venue with a tight uncompromising set in which even the older material sounds fresh out of the writing room. This is also the concert where during the second portion of Red, the team are joined by Tool drummer Danny Carey, who slips behind Pat’s kit to give it some thumping goodness. One word describes this gig: Essential.”
You said “Man, when Sid said it was absolutely essential, he wasn’t jokin! This set is incredibly powerful. The band is totally on their game. It’s so great to hear L5 and DC as they’re being played in their earliest stages. It’s incredible how heavy this band is. What a perfect matching with TOOL. I can’t believe they only did a handful of dates. Keep this stuff coming!”

Ade In Amsterdam (Slight Return)
