2 Of A Perfect Trio In Atlanta
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Sep 20, 2011
My thanks to Lee Landenberger for sending me this account of the first night of the 2 of a Perfect Trio tour.
"Opening night of the Two of a Perfect Trio tour featuring the Adrian Belew Power Trio and Tony Levin's Stick Men was pretty much like the name implies -- perfect.
Stick Men stormed through a 45-minute set that included Super Collider and a slice of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, nimbly handling some tricky material with plenty of joy and no visible jitters.
A 10-minute break later found the Power Trio thundering across some older songs like Young Lions and some newer ground like e. After a 15-minute break, both bands returned and morphed into a double trio that meshed perfectly as they stonked through King Crimson favorites such as Sleepless, Indiscipline, and Thela Hun Ginjeet.

It's miraculous that on an opening night both bands handled such difficult material with such seeming ease. When they took their final bow of the evening, it was smiles all around. The first night was done and well dusted. Nearly two and a half hours of great prog rock had gone off loudly, smoothly, and perfectly.
Sure, the spirit of Robert Fripp hung over the entire evening. It would have been great if he'd been there, but it wasn't necessary.
By the way, the Variety Theater here in Atlanta wasn't quite sold out. It's not a beautiful place, but Adrian Belew and King Crimson have played there many times. The acoustics are fabulous in there. No wonder they keep coming back."

:: Posted by Sid Smith on Thu., Sep 15, 2011
Although it's been featured on this news page in the past, it's always good to see that record store in Amsterdam again.
Complete with giant replica of the first pressing of ITCOTCK...
and the screaming face alongside one or two other iconic album covers...
My thanks to Denice for sending in these pictures.

Model Man
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Sep 13, 2011
In addition to highlighting another letter to Grooveshark (remember folks, they’re real fans of KC), Robert’s diary update also contains a visit to a model village.
Here’s a delightful little movie from Pathe News made in 1960 featuring a model recreation of Robert’s home town of Wimborne. Watch out at around the 50 second mark and you’ll see a shot of the King’s Head Hotel, one of the places Robert and his pals frequented as teenagers.

Double Trio European Tour 1996 - 26 Gigs Now Available
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Mon., Sep 12, 2011
Mister Stormy has been busy over recent days preparing all 26 dates of KC’s European tour for download. “Rather than make the individual gigs available over the course of the next few years, we thought it would be great to get them all up there at once.
Should anyone wishing to grab all the gigs together they can do so and enjoy a healthy discount on the concerts at the same time. But if you want to simply grab the one show you were at and have wanted to hear again, then it’s there in the usual way.”
The tour begins at Le Krakatoa in Bordeaux, France on May 28th '96 and runs through to the last night in London at Shepherds Bush Empire on July 1st.
