Grooveshark Is A Criminal Operation

That’s the verdict of one of the comments on the company after reading Flavourwire’s interview with Grooveshark CEO, Paul Geller. Here’s the comment in full which sheds light on the time-consuming nature of dealing with Grooveshark activity:
They act like it is just some simple thing to get your stuff taken down, however they make you do it a track at a time. My label has over 100 albums with an average of 10 tracks per album, that means I have to file over 1,000 take down requests after I find everything, and these jerks won’t even disclose to you who violated your copyright in the first place. On top of that, most of their email addresses just bounce, so you can’t talk to anyone. There is no reason to have a public upload policy, there should be an agreement in place for all content. He sites youtube, but youtube is a major pain, and you have to do take downs in the same single file, tedious way, although their system is easier. Grooveshark is a criminal operation.
That last line (with our emphasis added) also happens to be the conclusion of one of the industry contributors to this article in The Guardian. The Flavourwire piece has also been picked up by Daily Binary News.
Meanwhile back in the original piece on Digital Music News we note there’s this comment from Lisa Thomas Music Services:
I am the publishing administrator for the main songwriters of the Eagles and have spents hours upon hours serving DMCA takedown notices on Grooveshark’s designated agent demanding the site remove all of the compositions owned and controlled by my clients. I have cited the specific url’s of each infringing post in the notices. To date, Grooveshark has not removed any of the material. (I have noticed, however, that the url’s constantly change, meaning that, while Grooveshark might momentarily remove a specific url, another identical replacement is uploaded within 24 hours.)
Grooveshark has not made any effort to serve NOI’s with respect to its use of any compositions owned by any of my clients, and is not paying to use the music on its service, unlike Spotify, unlike Rhapsody, unlike the legitimate music services.
They do not pay labels; they do not pay artists. However, Mr. Geller and his staff surely do not work for free. Perhaps it’s time for the artists who are being ripped off by Grooveshark to begin to contact the advertisers paying Grooveshark for ad space to let them know that association with the "evil" internet companies like Grooveshark will bring them the kind of bad publicity and reputation that’s difficult to undo.
Artists have power. Grooveshark should be mindful of that.
Meanwhile we wonder if there’s any truth in the rumour that Paul Geller aka DJ Pauly Crush (and on Facebook) will be attending Halloween parties dressed as a pirate?

Tuning The Air Special Event

Next week's Tuning The Air concert in Seattle promises to be something special.
They write: Next Thursday's performance is going to be unique, even by Tuning the Air standards.
As you read this, the Tuning the Air team is sequestered at a little
summer camp near Gig Harbor. We are on retreat, and joining us are 7
extremely gifted guitarists who have also been performing for several
years in a weekly show, as well as touring extensively. This is their
first visit to Seattle. On this retreat we are pooling our resources, sharing our repertoire and experiences, and discovering what we can come up with together that is entirely new.
Our guests will be joining us for this week's performance of Tuning the
Air, and together we will be sharing with you the results of a very
creative week. We don't yet know who will do what, or how the whole
event will be orchestrated. But there will be at least 15 guitarists
performing for you. Oboe? Mandolin? Violin!?
You'll just need to be here to find out. This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime event!
And don't forget, the countdown is ON: only 6 more performances of Tuning the Air!

All orders for the 40th Anniversary of S&BB and Discipline have been shipped. Due to manufacturing delays, the US release date was moved to the 25th of October. We sent an email to each person who had pre-ordered either release stating that the ship dates were being moved to mid October, and it is has come to our attention that many customers did not receive this notification. Frippertronics Bundle

The Frippertronics Tour Bundle is alive and well - and you really do get twelve shows not ten.
When the website was built, the "man with the specifications" (yes, I think that would be me) did not plan for two shows by the same artist on the same day (duh!), and so these multiple shows appear in mysterious ways. If you click forwards through the tour, you see the Evening Shows, and if you click backwards through the tour, you see the Afternoon Shows. Our very own version of a hidden track.
But if you buy the bundle, you definitely get all of them!
