King Crimson 1969 - Were You There?
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Nov 15, 2011
I am currently working on a revised and expanded edition of my biography of King Crimson. I'm interested in speaking to folks who saw the 1969 line-up during it's brief time on the road.

I'm especially keen to hear from anyone who saw them in the UK outside of London and would be interested in any memories from those who saw them during their American tour.

If you saw the band during this period please send me an email and we can take it from there.

Congratulations to Neil Talbot of Devon. He wins a copy of the debut album by Slow Electric because he was able to tell me that the album was mixed by Andi Pupato. Stay tuned for another fabbo giveaway soon!

Mister Stormy's Monday Selection

Mister Stormy serves up a fly on the wall audio documentary-style selection taken from the Thrak sessions - he supplies the soundtrack, all you have to do is provide the pictures in your head!

Fripp & Bowie - A Dream Gig.
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sun., Nov 13, 2011
Regular readers of RF’s diary entries will of course be familiar with the tropes and recurring motifs found within its pages. But when those unfamiliar with such patterns of expression stumble across them via the intertubes, they can cause all manner of stirrings. For example this diary entry from the 15th October...

Rising from traveling adventures, in ‘planes and cars. Dropping off along to way to visit David Bowie, and it gradually appeared that David had some remarkable new ideas in process, not yet public. These he presented indirectly, to allow the penny to drop without prompting. Eno also got involved, and what a flowering of ideas!

...briefly provoked some heated speculation on the David Bowie Wonderworld Message Board. For the sake of clarity to newcomers from the Bowie board, and to try and take this particular piece of meat out of the Bowie rumour mill,  the phrase rising from...usually indicates that RF is then describing what he’s been dreaming about overnight.  That doesn’t stop the rest of us dreaming of what might be were such night time adventures to happen in the waking world. Sigh.

Slow Electric Giveaway
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Thu., Nov 10, 2011
We’ve got a copy of the Slow Electric debut album to giveaway. The album features a collaboration between Tim Bowness and Pete Chilvers and Estonian duo UMA (Aleksei Saks and Robert Jurjendal) with contributions on bass and stick from Tony Levin.

All you need to do to get this album is tell me the name of the person who mixed and mastered the album. In case you’re not sure you can find a rather big clue to that person’s identity on the Slow Electric page at Burning Shed where you’ll also be able to hear a track and watch a video.

Once you’ve got the name send the answer, along with a postal address, to competitions@dgmlive.com with Slow Electric as the header. The winner whose name will be picked from the fickle fedora of fate will be announced on Tuesday 15th November.

You can read Tim Bowness’s recently updated diary where he talks about the album, check out UMA’s website and read my review of the album over on the blog.

And The Winner Is...

Congratulations to Pedro De Carlo of Rosario, Argentina. He was able to tell me that the trumpet player on the Naked Truth album, Shizaru, was none other than Cuong Vu.

Whither The Long Tail?
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Wed., Nov 9, 2011
Here's Bob Lefsetz on The Myth of the Long Tail. Elsewhere, predictions about the death of the CD as a format might be a little premature.
