Owzat - King Cricket!
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Thu., Jul 11, 2013
My thanks to ironageuk for spotting this appearance of KC. He writes "To mark the start of The Ashes series, Gideon Coe’s BBC 6 Music show last night had a cricket theme, including selections from vinyl addict and former England test player Derek Pringle. Derek closed his selection with a rousing Red. Earlier in the day on ’Test Match Special’ they’d previewed this show and were pooh poohing his taste on the basis that on tour buses in his heyday, he’d take off ’perfectly nice’ stuff like Abba and George Benson and put on horrid noise instead. Listen here if the Beeb lets you in your locale."

It Was 44 Years Ago Today...
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Fri., Jul 5, 2013
King Crimson turned up to play at Hyde Park supporting The Rolling Stones. Ian McDonald's diary notes "Up morning. Got bus to Hyde Park for Stones concert.  ½ million people there. Did 35 minute spot. Great.  Stones not too good. Walked for a meal.  Back to flat.  Lot of people came over (19). Nice."

Robert Fripp's journal records "Standing ovation.  Mammoth Success, of importance which will take time to appreciate.  We’ll look back on this day in years to come and fully realise its significance."

You can download the set they played that day here.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but when imitation simply becomes a rip-off it’s time to call it out. People are urged to avoid this website which borrowing heavily on the Guitar Craft / Guitar Circle- affiliated approach to the instrument. Robert Fripp commented “This site and Mr. Matteo Negrin has no connection to Guitar Craft, neither is he a pupil of mine. Anyone contacting Mr. Negrin and/or the site is warned.”

Keith Tippett London Residency In August
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Mon., Jul 1, 2013
Keith Tippett is playing a three-night residency during August at The Vortex Jazz Club in London. Each evening showcases a different aspect of the composer and pianist’s work across contemporary classical, jazz and improvised music.

Tippett will be best known to King Crimson enthusiasts for his striking contributions to In The Wake Of Poseidon, Lizard and Islands. Robert Fripp, who in turn produced several Tippett-related releases, (including Septober Energy by the 50-piece Centipede) was so impressed by Tippett’s work and musical vision that he offered the pianist co-ownership of King Crimson.

Thursday August 15th
Keith Tippett with the Elysian Quartet
The programme will include Keith Tippett’s string quartet, commissioned by the Elysian Quartet in 2008. In the second half Tippett’s piano quintet ‘Linuckea’ will be performed. This was commissioned by the Kreutzer Quartet in 1995.

A world premiere: The Nine Dances of Patrick O’Gonogon, commissioned by Richard Wiltshire. Keith Tippett presents brand new contemporary jazz pieces in three movements.
