Maltese Cross?
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sun., Apr 22, 2012

King Crimson has a habit of turning up in the oddest of places. Here's a reference to them in this piece about Maltese politics.

Crimso 1971 Tour Bundle Goes Live
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Mon., Apr 23, 2012
The results of Mister Stormy’s sonic tweaking of the 1971 Boz-era live recordings goes live today. Starting with the Guild Hall in Plymouth and ending in the Academy of Music, New York, there are some great gigs for fans to get their teeth into. 16 gig for just $66.00 FLAC / $50.00 MP3 has to be a bargain!

Arguably the greatest find in the trawl through the Crimson archives is  a previously unheard set on the second night at the band’s stint at The Marquee, in pristine sound board quality. Whilst available for downloading now as either an individual concert or as part of the bundle, this concert will also be made available as a CD as part of the KCCC series later this year.

Camping With Crim!
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Mon., Apr 23, 2012
My thanks to rrossi for sending me this link. Rrossi writes "The May/June 2012 issue of "Ulster Magazine", a publication based in and about Ulster County, NY (home of recording studios used by KC and various band members, village of Woodstock, former home of T. Lev, etc.) has an excellent article about last year’s fan camp hosted by Tony, Ade and Pat. Being in digital format, it’s easy to access and read. There’s even a video clip by the article’s writer.  Good stuff! "

Orchestral Soundscapes In Concert Next Month
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Thu., Apr 19, 2012
Following on from the positive review of The Wine Of Silence comes this reminder that you can see Andrew Keeling's remarkable orchestrations of Fripp's soundscapes in concert in Amsterdam. Ticket are still available here.

Andrew Keeling and Bert Lams of the California Guitar Trio, who undertook the transcriptions of the scapes, will both be present at the concert.

The Wine Of Silence
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Thu., Apr 19, 2012
The latest edition of Prog magazine has some words of praise for the forthcoming The Wine Of Silence release. Occupying a half-page column in the reviews section of the magazine, journalist Rob Hughes asks “...is it any good? The answer, resoundingly, is yes. Taking its title from a typically gnomic Frippicism dating back to 1980, The Wine Of Silence is a stirringly emotive set that takes his original improvisations for guitar (which Fripp would then feed through a digital delay unit to build said Soundscapery) and transmutes them into the classical realm. It might all appear a bit arty on paper, but the reality is often very beautiful and moving.

Nothing quite illustrates this better than Miserere Mei, which amounts to 15 minutes of sombre, string-soaked majesty, complete with Gorecki harmonies and monastic incantations. Likewise the similarly sized Requiescat is a stately procession of violins and cellos, rolling out over the ether and lofted heavenward by subtle fanfares of brass and a sumptuous choral arrangement...

Sometimes, as on Black Light or Miserere Mei, it can get eerily disquieting and ominous. At others there’s a sense of gradual and sustained uplift. Gorgeous, in a word."

You can order the album at Inner Knot and at Burning Shed.

Keith Jarrett & Snapping
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Wed., Apr 18, 2012
"It's not that I don't like my picture taken. It has absolutely nothing to do with that. It's a process here. It's not something photographable. When people take whatever they take home with them, it's meaningless. BUT IT SCREWS WITH US." Thanks to Bijouboy for the heads-up on this article about Keith Jarrett.

Meet The New Boss, Worse Than The Old Boss?
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Wed., Apr 18, 2012
I'm grateful to emperornobody for sending in this link to the full text of a talk by David Lowery (Camper van Beethoven, Cracker) to the SF Music Tech Summit. Emp writes "it’s a fascinating perspective on the evolving industry models and what they mean (and don’t mean) for artists."

PJ Crook Exhibition
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Apr 17, 2012
There's an up and coming exhibition which will be of interest to fans of PJ Crook. From the blurb: In 2006, to coincide with the Queen’s first visit to the Baltic States, the Estonian Embassy in London organised an exhibition in Tallinn bringing together Estonia’s foremost painter and printmaker Juri Arrak and British artist PJ Crook. Now the honour is returned and Juri joins Gloucestershire artist PJ in exhibiting at Gloucester City Museum. Although both artists are quintessentially of their own nationalities they have in common the human figure at the centre of all their works and the spirituality that imbues them. This exhibition runs from 12th May to 30th June.

Mister Stormy's Monday Selection

Mister Stormy has blown the cobwebs of this organ-centric section of Heartbeat recorded during the Beat sessions.
