Fripp & Eno Live In Paris
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Fri., Jul 25, 2014
Live In Paris. the long-awaited archive live album from Fripp & Eno is now available for pre-order.

Live In Paris 28.05.1975 will be released on September 15th and can be obtained from Inner Knot for US costumers and Burning Shed for UK and Europe.

The subject of many poor quality bootlegs, this concert - one of only a handful undertaken by Fripp & Eno - is routinely described as ‘legendary’.

Hearing the tapes in fully restored audio quality, it’s easy to understand why it attracts such reverence now and perhaps, why the shows attracted such hostility then. No Roxy Music hits, No King Crimson riffs, just a duo sitting in near darkness with a reel to reel tape recorder, improvising over the pre-recorded loops with a filmed background projection. Replace the reel to reel machine with a couple of laptops/iPads/sequencers and the core of much current live performance from electronica to hip-hop was there some thirty years in advance. At the time, audiences responded to such a glimpse of the future with booing, walkouts and general confusion.

Thanks to the discovery and restoration of the original backing tapes, it was possible - with much painstaking restoration work by Alex Mundy at DGM - to isolate, de-noise and match the live elements from the performance tapes to the studio loops to produce the final recording.

* CDs 1 & 2 feature the complete concert with full audio restoration synched with the original studio backing loops as used in the performance.

* CD3 features the backing loops without overdubs.

* CD3 also features the reversed loop for Wind on Water as used on the Evening Star album.

* CD3 also features Later On, edited from No Pussyfooting & originally the b side of Eno’s first solo single Seven Deadly Finns.

With the exception of the last two items this is the same concert that was first made available for download via DGMLive.

Travis & Fripp's Discretion
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Fri., Jul 25, 2014
There's a new collection of material from Travis & Fripp coming out.

Featuring material drawn from concerts in Cornwall, Barcelona and Rome, Discretion is the fourth Travis & Fripp album.

The album is set for release on 15th September and can be ordered from Inner Knot for USA and Burning Shed for Europe.

Recorded to hi-res multi-track with minimal studio overdubs prior to being mixed down to hi-res stereo, the album is presented in a two disc CD/DVD-A format in a digi-pack at a special price, enabling the music to be heard, as intended, in hi-res audio form on the DVD-A (playable on all dvd players).

Travis & Fripp's music moves from the small-scale and intimate to an epic grandeur filled with blissful reverie and, on occasion, mournful reflection.

A masterclass in empathy, invention and vision, the album features two additional audio tracks previously only available on video (including the stunning Rhapsody On The Theme From Starless, an improvisation based on one of the most beloved King Crimson tracks).

Dram By Dram
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Jul 22, 2014
Never mind the road to Red - is this the road to ruin? My thanks to John O' Connor, who first saw Crimson at the Greyhound, Croydon, 1971, for sending in this item. "The old goat has been immortalised in spirit at last!! Could not resist taking advantage of the famous grouse promotion to personalize a whiskey bottle. So, toasting young Robert and the re-formulated Crimson crew with a wee dram and wishing the boys all the very best for the forthcoming tour."

Fripp On The Box
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sat., Jul 19, 2014
You can catch Robert Fripp's contribution to BBC4's The Joy Of The Riff via the BBC iPlayer.

Robert's segment of the show pops up at around 22 minutes.

"The riff was only one part of what King Crimson did. Their was a lot more going on...I don't think in terms of a riff. I might think in terms of a phrase or a motif"

John Doran of The Quietus offered this assessment of his work. "Robert Fripp is undoubtedly a genius. His earlier work with King Crimson, it's so technically proficient, it's so hard to get a handle on what he's doing"

The show is available to UK viewers for another six days via the iPlayer
