Dram By Dram

Never mind the road to Red - is this the road to ruin? My thanks to John O' Connor, who first saw Crimson at the Greyhound, Croydon, 1971, for sending in this item. "The old goat has been immortalised in spirit at last!! Could not resist taking advantage of the famous grouse promotion to personalize a whiskey bottle. So, toasting young Robert and the re-formulated Crimson crew with a wee dram and wishing the boys all the very best for the forthcoming tour."

Streaming And All That Jazz
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Jul 22, 2014
It's not just rock music that's feeling the effects of streaming as this piece from Salon indicates.

Fripp On The Box
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sat., Jul 19, 2014
You can catch Robert Fripp's contribution to BBC4's The Joy Of The Riff via the BBC iPlayer.

Robert's segment of the show pops up at around 22 minutes.

"The riff was only one part of what King Crimson did. Their was a lot more going on...I don't think in terms of a riff. I might think in terms of a phrase or a motif"

John Doran of The Quietus offered this assessment of his work. "Robert Fripp is undoubtedly a genius. His earlier work with King Crimson, it's so technically proficient, it's so hard to get a handle on what he's doing"

The show is available to UK viewers for another six days via the iPlayer

On This Date 42 Years Ago...

Bill Bruford formally left Yes to take up residency in King Crimson on this date 42 years ago. Back before the internet, before Twitter, message boards and dedicated music websites, they way you found out what what your favourite band might be up to was to buy one of several weekly music papers. Here's how many of us back then found out about the new incarnation of King Crimson that week.

Robert On The Box

The famously reclusive Robert Fripp makes yet another appearance on TV in the UK tonight when he takes part in BBC 4's The Joy Of The Guitar Riff. Here's what the Radio Times preview has to say about it. And here's what Robert had to say about it when the film crew came to call in April

Crimson In Concert: Interim Demands

A tongue in cheek (we hope) piece on what one KC concert-goer wants to see happening in September

Daytime Crim
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Fri., Jul 18, 2014
My thanks to FraKcman who writes "Is it only me? Am I the only one who hears LTIA loud and clear in the end titles of BBC TV show ’Flog it: Trade Secrets’?
For those in the UK only please see 28 minutes and 30 seconds
In fact the music used by the main Flog It show also sounds familiar to my ears.
It doesn’t matter what country you’re in for this link."
