KC Live In Toronto Goes Live
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Thu., Mar 17, 2016
The first full concert release by this incarnation of King Crimson is released this week.

The 2-disc set captures the band in full-flight in a decisive performance. The show, already available for download, has prompted these reactions from site visitors.

"What an album! Couple of points - firstly it’s a brilliant live recording and mix, and also firstly it’s a brilliant performance. Everyone is brilliant, though it’s most noticeable that Mel Collins has now properly found his place in the many hot tunes that didn’t originally have a wind part."

"'Larks Tongues In Aspic, Part I' -- The highlight for me. Gave me chills on my first listen."

"This is a wonderful document of a band on fire - and they certainly were that night. For those underwhelmed by last year’s Orpheum release, this may well be the cure. For those simply waiting for a more complete Crim Mk.VIII experience, this is very much the real deal, presented virtually unaltered. It presents the band in all the breadth of its sweep, and finally does justice to the jaw-dropping triple-drummer frontline. The stereo mix is dynamic, clear, almost too good to be true for a live mix!"

"Many are still asking the question "Why three drummers?" I can say that I am not after hearing this. This band is smoking hot. At times, there are moments of sublime beauty, and at others, borderline cacophony, and everything in between that you’ve come to expect from King Crimson."

"This is a wonderful concert with the highs of Epitaph and Easy Money! It can´t be better!"

You can order it via Inner Knot (USA) and Burning Shed (UK & Europe).

King Crimson At Plumpton 1969
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Mon., Mar 14, 2016
King Crimson's appearance at the Plumpton Festival in 1969 is available to download today. Although this show has long been available as part of the Epitaph set released in 1997, there's been several calls for it to be added to the site, not least of all by site visitor, Harry Spade.

It's a great audience recording that captures the band on especially good form.

The Plumpton concert is available to download here.

Keith Emerson
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sat., Mar 12, 2016
The death of Keith Emerson was announced yesterday. Keith’s work with The Nice and then Emerson, Lake and Palmer saw him emerge as one of the pivotal figures in the late ’60s rock music and throughout the 1970s.

King Crimson supported The Nice in 1969, notably at Croydon’s Fairfield Hall which yielded The Nice’s Five Bridges album, and when both bands played various bills America during November. It was there, following McDonald and Giles’ announcement they would be leaving the group, that Emerson and Lake began discussing the possibilities of working together.

Emerson had several connections to King Crimson beyond his obvious association with Greg Lake and later, Peter Sinfield, with both Andy McCulloch and Ian Wallace renting rooms in the keyboard player’s flat in London’s Drayton Gardens.

In 2014 Jakko Jakszyk’s surround sound and new stereo remixes of Brain Salad Surgery were released, followed a year later by Jakko’s remix of their 1972 album, Trilogy.

The team at DGMLive sends its condolences to Keith’s family.

UPDATE: Greg Lake pays tribute to Keith Emerson.

"To all ELP friends and fans all over the world, I would like to express my deep sadness upon hearing this tragic news. As you know Keith and I spent many of the best years of our lives together and to witness his life coming to an end in the way that it has is painful, both to myself and to all who knew him.

As sad and tragic as Keith's death is, I would not want this to be the lasting memory people take away with them. What I will always remember about Keith Emerson was his remarkable talent as a musician and composer and his gift and passion to entertain. Music was his life and despite some of the difficulties he encountered I am sure that the music he created will live on forever.

My deepest condolences go to Keith's family. May he now be at peace."
