Larks' Tongues In Aspic Boxset
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Mon., Aug 13, 2012

The long-awaited 40th anniversary edition of the legendary Larks’ Tongues In Aspic quintet  will be released on October 15th.

One of the key recordings in the King Crimson canon, and the only formal studio recording by the LTIA quintet, the 40th Anniversary Edition will be released in three separate editions to satisfy the merely curious and the expectant collector.

1. CD/DVD-A: CD: New stereo mix + selected audio extras – all new content.
DVD-A featuring 5.1 new surround mix, original & new stereo mixes in hi-res stereo, a full album of alt mixes by Steven Wilson & more than 30 minutes of unseen footage of the band live in the studio.
2. Limited edition Boxed Set:13CDs, 1DVD-A, 1Blu-Ray in 12” box with booklet & memorabilia. DVD-A content as above, Blu-Ray content as per DVD-A with further hi-res stereo material – all presented in DTS Master audio, 4CDs of studio content including CD of session reels featuring the first recorded takes of all pieces on the album, 1CD live in the studio, 8CDs of live audio restored bootlegs & soundboard recordings + 36 page booklet with an extensive new interview with Robert Fripp, notes by King Crimson biographer Sid Smith, album sleeve print, concert ticket replica (with code for further concert download) & band photo postcards – limited to initial orders, one pressing only to a worldwide maximum limit of 7,000 units.

3. 2CD: Complete original & new mixes with selected audio extras.
Whilst the clip of the quintet performing LTIA pt1 during the Bremen Beat Club recording has been available on the internet for several years in varying degrees of quality, there has been some fevered speculation as to whether the full concert would ever see the light of day.

Though it's been a long time coming, the full video of David Cross, Robert Fripp, John Wetton, Bill Bruford and Jamie Muir will now be seen in full. We hope all Crimheads agree that the waiting to get this in the best possible quality will have been worth while.

Pre-ordering details will appear soon.

Larks' Turntable...
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Tue., Oct 21, 2014
A couple of years ago we were contacted by site visitor Max who, along with his wife Samantha,  had created a rather fine looking modified Pioneer  turntable.

Now Max has been back in touch with his latest creation. "We liked creating the Discipline turntable so much we decided to repeat the process This time we used another turntable a Lenco L75/S and another album cover."

I think you'll agree the results are rather splendid.

Any other examples of KC-modified audio equipment out there? Let us know.

Starless In Situ
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sat., Oct 18, 2014
The multi-disc Starless box set got mentioned on national radio this morning.

The name check came on BBC Radio 5 Live Danny Baker show when the DJ mentioned having just taken delivery of his copy. It's a fleeting reference but it can be listened to for the next week via the BBC iPlayer at around 11.08.

In the meantime, please start sending us pictures of the box set when it arrives at your house via this email address marked STARLESS IN SITU and we'll start posting them on the site. Don't forget we like to see a shelfie as well!

Release Schedule Update
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Sat., Oct 18, 2014
A lot of folks have been asking about the availability of downloads from the last tour. As Mr.Stormy indicated in his reply to a guestbook question earlier this week, there are no downloads of the 2014 tour envisaged at this stage. Jakko Jakszyk is currently listening through all the recordings of the concerts assessing what might be made available for release in the spring of 2015.

Staying with the 2014 tour, the good news is that the phenomenally successful Elements Of King Crimson tour box will be available for mail order (Inner Knot) and regular retail from November.

The 40th Anniversary Edition of Beat will now also be 2015. While many will be disappointed at the news, the prevailing view is that it's better to have the CD/DVD-A release as good as it possibly could be, and in order to achieve that the release date has been shifted.

Elsewhere, there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful if you’re a Crim fan. Islands is now available on vinyl, as is Fripp & Eno Live In Paris (Inner Knot & Burning Shed), Travis & Fripp Discretion (Inner Knot & Burning Shed).  Of course, if that's not enough then the Starless box (Inner Knot & Burning Shed) set is now available.

Remembering Boz
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Fri., Oct 17, 2014
Earlier this week DGMLive Towers received the following post from site visitor, PigletsDad: “I was in Edinburgh over the weekend with my wife, and we took the bus out to Leith, and walked back to the Botanic gardens along the Water of Leith footpath. Just outside the Malmaison hotel in Leith, on the East side of the river, I found Boz Burrell’s simple but touching memorial.”

The memorial wasn’t something we’d heard about before PigletsDad’s post and a little googling revealed the origins of the memorial itself was something of a mystery as this media item from 2011 indicates.

More inquisitive mouse clicking reveals the memorial, in the shape of a bass clef, was made by sculptor James Parker who reveals that it was commissioned by Boz’s widow, Cath.

You can view the piece on James’ flickr page and these photos taken by Hugh and originally posted on the Black Cat Board.
