  SOUND VISION WORD

King Crimson

King Crimson is older and smaller, and continues to reinvent its wheel. When a new wheel appears, we stand back and look at it: we have a wheel.

So, perhaps King Crimson isn't getting any wiser.

The present incarnation is a Double Duo and/or a Quartet. It is also four soloists, four trios and six duettists. Whether or not these varying and various components burst into song, a celebration and affirmation of our life and musicKing together, depends upon a number of conditions being present and available:

Firstly, that the group wishes to do so.
Secondly, that the audience allows this to be. enthusiasm.

I assume the group wishes to be.

So, why might the audience not allow this? Perhaps:

A love of history.
A lack of familiarity with our present repertoire.
A demand to fetishize and imprison the event within the contraints of photography, autography and recording.

How might the music industry bound our enthusiasm? Perhaps by:
Emphasizing product rather than process.
Accepting standard practice as the best available.
Directing our energies away from musicKing.

Rehearsals began in Nashville on May 1st. 2000 followed by three play-in performances at 12th. & Porter in Nashville on 19, 20 & 21st. May 2000. The aim of these was to catalyze the group's performance through exposure to public ridicule.

King Crimson began their European tour in Copenhagen on 27th. May 2000 and performed in Japan and the US later in the year.

The pattern has been mirrored in 2001, with King Crimson interspersing live performances with writing and recording. In June 2001, they again debuted new material at 12th and Porter in Nashville, this time from their forthcoming album, before joining Tool for a tour of the West Coast of the US.
