Co-write theme song for new animated series called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The show is a massive international success. The music publisher tells my partner and I that we will not be paid music royalties for the millions of video games and video cassettes being sold. The reason we are given is that they’d rather not pay us.

It’s nice to see you so happy, and the weather there looks like it could not have been better. My last trip to SF was nearly 30 years ago, and at the Mark Hopkins I enjoyed the best preparation of sweetbreads I’ve ever had. Anyway, good on you! Nice to see you beam so happily. Today, I was blessed with a glorious time with my 3 sisters. It is enough to strengthen me for the road ahead.

I saw a trailer for a new film called ’Broken City’, with Russell Crowe, Mark Wahlberg, etc. Featured throughout the trailer was Kanye West’s ’Power’, but without the ’Schizoid Man’ sample.

Did the use of this track necessitate a renegotiation for the use of the sample, or no? Or did Kanye produce a version without the sample?

Just curious. I am in favor of Fripp getting paid.

You will also find it at the begining of The Wall movie, I’m not too sure if its on the album.  I’m pretty sure The Yea Yea Yea’s also use a variant on one of their most recent tracks.

Indeed, that Mellotron sound is one of those pre-recorded rhythm/licks/whatever tapes from the old legendary machine. Some people have named it "Sad Strings" and it appears on a couple of Mellotron emulators.
