The weather continues exceptionally mixed. We took the opportunity of a piece of sunshine to eat outside, accompanied by a performing duo wafting over the garden wall. from the Plum Festival Tent in the garden of The Angel & Trumpet: classics from The Everlies, Simon & Garfunkel.
On the street for post-lunch shopping, the weather changed: I stepped out into rain.
Returning to e-flurrying. I have been invited as a guest speaker for a music-training establishment in England. They have an impressive website of successful alumni. It became immediately clear that I have nothing to say to them that would fit their education. What would I say – have you considered plumbing or carpentry: you play a useful social role and have a higher likelihood of getting paid?
My reply…
dear mr. invitor,
i'm impressed with the site, and what you're doing. and convinced that mine is not the voice for your students!
so very respectfully, and gratefully, i'll decline.
Noting that I’m not the person to consult to make it in the music business; generally I’m only of use to older students, perhaps the instructors of students, and/or those who have major problems in their lives. When life is hard, even a question of life and death, it’s possible to have a conversation. Until then, managing BS and social platitudes falls under the heading of good manners and being polite. When necessity visits, there’s no room and no energy for anything other than what is real.
17.56 We are about to step out of the front door and walk three doors down the street for a Happy Hour social engagement.
19.54 Lotsa fun. We are fortunate to live in a town as friendly as this.
To gentle.
