Around 19.00 Hellboy Tom &
myself had a sense of something off.
I feel offness in my heart. Usually,
this particular feeling registers an intention that is positively negative.
Perhaps directed ill-will, resentment (such as was ongoing with certain former
members of Crim who nevertheless came to shows in London); someone coming to
disrupt the event, for whatever reason; maybe a bootlegger (the euphemism taper doesn’t convey the non-consensual
nature of their act, which is to take something from the performance which is
not theirs to take, and then to deny the damage done).
Introductory Soundscaping prior to
the Crimson set, but this sense of something
off continued into the performance for perhaps 30-40 minutes. Then,
gradually, the music took over the centre & the performance strengthened on
the inside. On the outside, the performance was strong for most of the show.
A very supportive audience,
standing & coming to the front of stage for the final encores. A lone woman
stood in front of Adrian for Walking On
Air; as would once have been said, too
muched by the song.
The band stood & acknowledged
the audience. When the flashes started going off, I left the stage. There will
be posts: Fripp walked off the stage when
his Band Buddies were waving to the audience! He disrespected me! What a creep!
The matter is simple: I’m not there for the photo session. When photography
gets going, so do I. Surely, no surprises here.
Afterwards, a band-centering &
a glass of champagne together. We have enjoyed this tour.
Conversations with AQM Hellboy Tom
& FQM Terry on the way out of the venue. Both felt something very off
before the audience-line entered the theatre. Terry felt the difference when
leaving the SoundSculptured Space & going out into the theatre & along
the line.
Music has the power to reconcile
disruption, but it doesn’t act like a lobotomy: our acceptance of what’s going
on is necessary.
