13.49 A morning of Pencil Frenzy, and one of the ideas - what began as a possible pocket for Adrian to sing in "Runaway" - established its own character, very quickly. A seemingly simple motif if 6 in 7/8 wraps around on itself, and in the hands of the Rhythm Buddies stood up and danced. Adrian has a distinctively Belewbeloid rhythm part on top. And how this boy finds "colourful" notes. What notes are in C7? Well, C/E/G/B flat, or course. I'm old enough to embrace an F# with a smile. But this is how Adrian Belew approaches the matter with this morning's AB animal chord: C7 = C/E/G#/F#/B flat. That's without the moving notes. Sounds great. 16.43 Beast! Beast! "Runaway" has been stomped and skwernoed. A monster 4'30" of hair-raising Crim is very close to terrifying more than the members of the band. All in all, a very strong day in defining & refining the emerging signature sound of this group. 19.06 We are very up from our day's two pieces. And more big excitement: The Rosenbergs are in town tonight at the Exit Inn. David Singleton is landing around 22.00. Pat & Trey are collecting David at the airport and heading Rosenbergs-wards. But it's own-up time for the Cry Baby Party Pooping Venal Leader - I go to bed terribly early, even around 20.30 once this week. It even took me a day to recover from dinner at Chateau Pomersley-Wallace. What a feeb. But, good thoughts fly towards the R-Team.
