Bredonborough.
A bright, sunny day.
A further report on interesting home-arisings of the non-material kind: T was passing the study Library and heard me grrrrrrrrrr-ing her. (The grrrrrrrrrr is our recognition-and-acknowledgement grunt; professional analogues are the Crimson Yodel and the Crimson Honk). I was not in the Study, but in the small room at the back of the house.
Off for a Willcox family-picnicking day.
20.18 Collecting Barbara in the Piddle and driving to meet the rest of the family, arriving c. 12.20 at The Feathers pub, opposite the entrance to Cliveden…
Cliveden was the home of the Astors and the Cliveden Set, its position in recent history established as the place where John Profumo met Christine Keeler (* see personal-associated relating below).
Mother-In-Law Barbara grew up in this area, where her Father was Farm Manager on the nearby Hedsor estate. The immediate purpose of our day-out is to become better acquainted with Barbara’s family history, of which we know little.
Into Cliveden for picnicking…
… and onto Hedsor parish church of St. Nicholas, adjoining the Priory I…

… and the farm that was the young Barbara’s home…
Finally, to Burnham Beeches for tea & coffee…
Returning Barbara to the Piddle and home. * Personal relating: visiting the Portal Gallery in Central London (1975) to acquire Fergus Hall’s paintings for artwork on The Young Persons’ Guide To King Crimson, while in conversation with the gallery owner, the occupant of the apartment above looked through the door to say hello. An older, smart woman: Valerie Hobson, Mrs. Profumo. 20.46 Delivered this morning in the post, awaiting our return… Final packing for tomorrow.
