11:00 My wife seems to believe that the recipe for Super Wonder soup should carry a Public Health Warning. She calls it "Ardour Softener" and says that it makes me smell of sewage. I refrain from consuming this intensely nourishing concoction for two days before a hot date with Toyah.
Beaton the Wonder Bun slept under our bed last night: his family warren; he also smells somewhat aromatic, perhaps also because of a diet of cabbage and carrots. But he is very beautiful, constantly entrancing, always a visual delight, and he has a very pleasant nature. Which means that he continues to eat cabbage and carrots when my wife is at home, and I don't.
This evening Toyah has the Press evening for "The Live Bed Show" and I am driving to Hornchurch to cheer unrestainedly.
Today, we continue with ProjeKct Two live mixing and preparing materials for the DVD: my brain has seized, running out of dribble, from accessing too many words in too many files.
Here are some more files, retrieved from storage, which continue from those posted above: for the possible interest of Web visitors (but probably not Hurt Brat, Zen Master). These are various notes, aide memoires, reflections from book and coffee shops on several continents, jotted down for later consideration; presented here in "typing out loud" format. As I briefly survey them, they seem relevant to various issues addressed on this and the ET Web sites.
The quality of our perceptions determines the quality of our judgement.
Our judgement determines how we interract with the world.
How we interract with the world changes the world.
So, the quality of our perceptions changes the world we perceive.
If I name myself, I recognise who I am.
By recognising who I am, I become myself.
If you name me, pinning me down with some easy slogan, you kill me.
When a record company makes a mistake, the artist pays for it.
When the artist makes a mistake, the artist pays for it.
The artist has one career.
The manager has as many careers as they have artists.
The record company has as many careers as it has artists.
An honest society is an ordered society.
An ordered society is an efficient society.
An efficient society is a richer society.
A richer society may invest in itself and support a poorer society.
In our actions we reveal the world in which we live. We speak of what we see, and understand, and know. That is, everything we do is reflective of who and what we are. A musician presents a view from the world in which they live. This provides an opportunity for an audience to look into this world. Similarly a reviewer reviews themself. A reviewer reviews themself by presenting the extent of their understanding.
When our subjective state changes the music may remain the same, but our experience of it is different. If our experience of the music is different, then the music is different. In this simple way, by listening, the audience changes the music. Music changes when people hear it.
Our understanding changes what is is that we understand. Our interraction with the field of intelligence (the "subject" of our understanding) responds to our understanding of it. Our "realisation" makes the subject more real. (In this way hearing music changes the music we are hearing. A piece of music is the sonic expression of points of crystallization within a field of "living", creative intelligence - music).
Any action carries repercussions. Active and creative interraction and involvement with anything carries active and creative repercussions. Things are not as they were before: they have changed. So, if we approach a "living", creative, intelligent "object" a second time and expect it to be the same, we will not see or understand it - it is not the same. So, to see it "again", we will have to see it not only "as if for the first time" but in actuality for the first time, because it has not been like this before.
So, we can never reach a Final Understanding of anything because it will change as we develop understanding. If we did reach a Final Understanding, simultaneously the "subject" would change, rendering our FU as past tense, and no longer final!
In the UK, style and attitude is confused with creativity and individuality.
Music is multi-levelled. It invites us to participate in a rich world of direct experiencing. Words cannot convey a musical experience. A knowledge of the musical language will not itself give us this experience. Verbal language is the language of function. The musical language is a language of being. One describes what we are, the other speaks to who we are.
The cultural, social and political associations of particular music genres fall from the music when it crosses the water.
In dispute, in the world of business, the businessman has the advantage over the artist. The artist may enter the world of business, but at the cost of their artistry. This is a high price to pay. The process of dispute is as equitable as suggesting that the dispute is settled by the businessman auditioning for the job of the artist.
