DGM HQ.

A knock on the front door from the Parcel Man at 08.15. He was delivering a parcel for our pal, dear old Mr. Stormy. Signed, delivered, he left. And returned 5 minutes later, with a parcel for the Post Office, not yet open.

Mr. Parcel Man:    Can I ask you a personal question?
RHVL:                  It’s too early in the morning.

Mr. Parcel Man:    Are you married to Toyah?
RHVL:                  It’s too early in the morning.

In this simple exchange: the key to what any innocent DGM site-visitor needs to know about the lives of those who engage with the public. More than this, Mr. Parcel Man hadn’t even handed over hard-earned pay, didn’t even have consumer rights to claim. Mr. PM found a demeanour of equanimity to accompany the non-provision of information to a question the answer of which he already knew; even though his deliveries required twice-rising from a morning sitting.

20.25 Afternoon computing & reading. Mucho academic reading waiting.

A late-afternoon kitchen discussion with David, who is pondering & reflecting on the Singleton family holiday. The Singletons visited places where significant events took place, including where St. Paul stood & spoke. Is the sanctity continuing? What of pilgrimage? David mentioned the recent papal comment, on the Via Dolorosa perhaps not being the actual physical & geographical route. Does this matter? Pilgrimage is an inner journey, after all, albeit where one’s feet are moving over established pathways. But perhaps the Via Dolorosa has been sanctified, if nothing else, by the feet of pilgrims?

Everyday life in the DGM kitchen, alongside the dirt, the mess, the unwashed plates & the malfunctioning fridge.

David left at 19.50 following a call from his Wife, reminding him that the family lived nearby, they were still alive, and sat down to an evening meal most evenings.
