DGM HQ.
There were conversations with Tino
still to be had. Fortunately, I visited Tino & Barbara last year; and it
was time to visit again. When I learnt Tino was in hospital, I called; but he
died two days before. This was a rapid decline.
Kitchen discussion began the day…
Overview of yesterday evening’s
visit to the BPI (see yesterday’s diary).
Fundamentally, 2 different worlds
are involved – the new & the old. This without hostility, just different
paradigms. David’s position, that the industry connives at forms of piracy
because it is in their interest to do so, remains. This, without imputing bad
intentions. For example, the database idea: the BPI would then inform pressing
plants as to which DVDs / CDs are legitimate. The database begins with the now
& the straightforward. Disputes from the 1970s will, eventually, cease to
have relevance or be resolved. But we begin with the possible, the legitimate,
in the present. Disputes & grey areas from the past may remain grey, but
may also become clearer in time. Meanwhile, DGM will prepare its own database
& forward this to the BPI; and perhaps other small companies will do the
same.

I have declined to accept a large
$ donation to help establish a GC House in Bredonborough; because we don’t have
charitable status. Neither do I believe this is possible to achieve without
lying & wasting too too much energy & £s on creating a NFP construct.
Several correspondents were in touch last year, as to how this might be
feasible. It came down to this: lie, get the status, and then do what you do.
In some situations, on some occasions, I would. In this situation & at this
time, not.

On this subject, although not an
academic, I am a primary authority; but the subject, as a subject, fails to
ignite my interest.
