Patricia’s interview was superb. Then to the final meeting of the NSA Conference at 10.00. Loading car at 11.30 & lunch with Dan Maddux at 12.00, with Dan making suggestions of how to improve the presentation of Fripp & Fripp.

My comments on three days within the NSA world at SpeakerPalooza

1.         Notable: the strength of the warmth & welcoming, for which I am particularly grateful to Mark leBlanc for inviting me to take part. Warmth & welcoming is rare in my professional world.

2.         The difference between the speaker presenting / promoting their subject, and the speaker promoting themselves by using their subject; the latter with two distinct characteristics:

fixed & tightly scripted delivery, without much flexibility;

the use of sentiment.

3.         The extent, intensity & amplitude of talking. This is unsurprising at a Speakers’ convention! Personally, I am welcoming of silence, and grateful even for quiet.

4.         The degree of positive reinforcement & support. This is also rare in my professional world.

5.         The nature of Personal Memory: an engineer commented, at the end of the F&F talk on Saturday afternoon, that RF was “good on his dates”, but that Sergeant Pepper was released on June 1st. 1967; yet I had given the example of hearing Day In The Life as an example for turning pro on May 16th. 1967; and had mentioned hearing DITL when returning from the Majestic Hotel in early 1967.

I had also mentioned that I remember our Mother, St. Edith of the Valleys, bursting into tears when, at 17, I told her I wanted to turn professional. In later years, Mother claimed she hadn’t burst into tears; yet I remember that she did. And, whether she did, or did not, I registered the emotional event. There are also two KC dates in Italy in 1973 that fused into one, on later recall. Perhaps the powerful & re-directing events of the first half of 1967 may have fused into one, in my memory?

The next NSA event for Fripp & Fripp will be in Las Vegas in April…

19.34  Chez Sistery, SF.

Sister’s meeting ended earlier than she anticipated, so we left the Airport Marriott…

… and headed home to Chez Sistery for launderising & a visit to The Crepevine.

Ahead: The Bourne Ultimatum on DVD. We shall celebrate our childhood Saturday afternoons with Father at local cinemas, when we were too young to be granted admittance to high action such as Bourne and had to be content with suitable fare for children; such as immigrant cowboys attacking the indigenous population, in addition to those of their own kind who were misbehaving.
