Rising at 05.30 in Maison Minx, Chiswick…

… and into the taxi at 06.30. The M4 is currently closed, with the discovery of cracks in a flyover. Not good news on a major motorway into London, to/from Heathrow. So out on the A4, a route known to a Happy Gigster who travelled this way in pre-M4 days. Actually in GG&F days.

Straightforward process through security procedures to Giraffe for breakfast…

In the lady-person facilities, T met a local person of our acquaintance, one we have been writing to for two years without reply. We passed her, with her family, about to board a flight for their holiday in America. This chance-meeting felt significant.

… and one of our two female flight attendants had seen T in panto, this past season in St. Albans, about which she enthused (rightly).

In the rear row of three with an empty seat between us, just before takeoff a strange man approached down the central aisle. Clearly alcoholic, he was very drunk. So drunk I am surprised he had been allowed on the ‘plane. He moved to sit between us, although I doubt this was his assigned seat. I moved to it, not wanting him to be next to the Minx, so he took the aisle seat. Waves of alcohol fumes and horrible emanations throughout the flight. He collapsed on me at one point. I hope he finds his way to recovery.

This was a good example of the presence of absence: he was simply not there. So, a guard had to be maintained.
