20.16 Hotel Acceptable, Somewhere in California. It might seem to a non-Gigster that, while on the road, Happy Gigsters get to meet & play with friends in the many exotic locations that Gigsters visit. Actually, not. This Gigster is mostly too busy, too tired, dealing with too much stuff (the downside of communication technologies) and/or not staying in one location for very long. Today is a case in point. Rumination of the day: the Four Quarters Maintainers have been contributing substantially to performances. I have been able to go places with Soundscapes, in a professional context, which have not been possible before. The musician is only able to play music to the extent that the audience is able to listen. Alternatively, unless the audience & musician are engaged, it is unlikely that music can be born in our world. It is not compulsory for the audience to listen but, that being so, the professional musician's capacity to discharge what is required of them is severely constrained. In the performances so far, I have been able to: 1. take time to develop ideas; 2. use dynamics. That these two fundamental requirements of the musical life are worthy of comment is a sad reflection on the performance conditions I am accustomed to find.
