Bredonborough.
A sharp, bright day with blue

The Minx’s working day began in
London at seven. Here, messages on the answering machine moved me from a
reading & reflective morning into a stuff morning, where functionality
waited to be addressed; and was.
To London & the Estonian
Embassy for 16.00.

Leaving Bredonborough just before
noon; driving to Chiswick listening to Jack Bruce & Robin Trower’s Seven Moons. Jack is in great voice
& benefits from working with a player of equal status, IMO. Similarly,
Robin responds to a player of comparable stature to his own. This is a team I’d
like to hear live.
To Chiswick Park tube I…

… and onto Gloucester Road for the
Circle line. But there were problems on the Circle line, as per my past few
adventures on the Tube, so I began to walk while the Minx, driving from a
charitable engagement at a hospital for abused children, was arriving &
looking for parking in the area. We met somewhat by accident & walked to
the Embassy together, a punctual arrival.
The immediate occasion of this
visit was to receive a considerable honour in connection to the
90th anniversary of Estonian independence. The President of Estonia decided to honour the HRVL with the Order of the Cross of Terra
Mariana IVth. Grade, to acknowledge the building of a cultural bridge to
Estonia. The award was presented by Dr. Margus Laidre, the Republic’s Ambassador
to the UK, on behalf of President Toomas Hendrik Ilves (who claims to be the first owner of ITCOTCK in 1969 while he was living
NYC).
This gracious & considerable
honour was followed by a delightful conversation with Dr. Laidre, a cultured
man & historian by education. Along with other members of his generation, he
felt a responsibility to serve the Estonian Republic when independence returned
in 1991.
A wonderful visit I…

Afterwards, a visit to actor pals
Tim & Ann in South Kensington, delivering 3 years of Christmas presents;
returning to Chiswick & car-collection, then onto DGM HQ.
