22.09 The new Club release, King Crimson live from Summit Studios in March 1972, is playing to my left. Alex the Sturdy has given me a CD, burnt at World Central late this afternoon, with the urgent imperative to pass an opinion. My immediate response is that this is exactly why the Club was set up. This is not definitive Crimson, more obiter dicta. But, in terms of Crimson history, this radio date is definitive. It presents an in-between Crim towards the end of its active life. Peter Sinfield had ceased to be part of the group 3 months before, resonances from which continue to this day. The overall sound is good but there is no mellotron on the session. I seem to remember practical problems. More on this release later. The Big Three had a rare opportunity to be in the same room together. Diane is just back from DGM Los Angeles, David is off to Seattle tomorrow for BootlegTV, and I'm off to Nashville for KC. Other office news: Hugh has succumbed to Devil Bug. Alex is effectively supervising the KC archive. And we received a letter from the BPI which is significant. I'll report on this given a little more time. John Wetton called to let me have his new number. John returned to his stomping ground of Bournemouth just before Christmas. The area has changed hugely to the Bournemouth & surrounding Dorset countryside which John remembers. The creeping conurbation of the past 25 years was an unpleasant surprise.
