22.59 DGM HQ. Setting off from Bredonborough at luncthime to the environs of Hemel Hempstead, visiting the multi-talented Steven Wilson...
… arriving c. 15.00. This is the room / studio which David Singleton & I visited 16 years ago, to contribute to a No Man album, and where / when Tim Bowness produced picture-cards of various guitarists to suggest a thinking-orientation for the playing. Only one of Steven’s skills is 5.1 surround mixing & Steven has taken an interest in 5.1 mixing of the Crimson catalogue. The first undertaking: Discipline I…
II…
III…
Steven’s Discipline default-Crim-mix-thinking is 95% of my own. I made only 2 or 3 small suggestions to Steven’s superb surround-presentation, simply implemented. Stereo will never sound the same again to these ears. A straightforward travelling to Hemel Hempstead, a disagreeable-journeying to DGM HQ, taking 5 hours; half the journeytime moving 5 miles on the M25 as part of a 20 mile queue on the NW section while, simultaneously, a queue of 27 miles was queuing on the SE section. Arriving to an office where bathwater had emptied into it, for the second time… The first time, the HRVL discovered the bath-leak following his own morning ablution, but no-one had given Hugh the Fierce plumbing-disfunction info. A Saturday-morning Hugh-bath resulted in a second emptying onto paperwork & boxes in this office below. Mucho snapping of the whipcords by Hugh & David moved guitars, computer items & CDs from the bath-water-attacked space.
Dribble.
