#3109, Golden Nugget, Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.

Look left…

Rising at 05.55. I wheeled myself along the long corridors to the elevator, the long corridors & life to the Buffet Zone, for a reflective breakfast with speech notes & material I…

II…

… then, wheeled myself back to the room.

Turn a seeming disadvantage to your advantage.

The greater the seeming disadvantage, the greater the possible advantage.

So, what have I learnt from being in a wheelchair?

The musician has three disciplines: the hands, the head & the heart. A primary aspect of heart-discipline is putting ourselves in the place of others; experiencing the world as they are experiencing it. (I note: this is not always pleasant).

My Father had a game leg, from polio in the womb: this shaped his life. This morning, I have a better sense of his life.

People, in the generality, are kind.

Almost no-one in this town (that I have wheeled-near) seems to have a sense of their personal presence, and remain utterly unaware of what is happening within their proximate space. When they notice a man in a wheelchair, only then are they kind. How could it be otherwise?

12.12  The Minx is just about to leave London for Beijing & her charity walk to support Olivia Newton-John.

… knows the problem I am suffering from his own background as a dancer; and has brought anti-inflammatories with good advice & information. I am returned to the land of the living & walking.

As the 42nd. Greatest Guitarist of All Time – Living or Dead I’m unsure to which category Rolling Stone has consigned me.

19.38  A very good learning afternoon, and entertaining. We were visited at short notice by the Mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman with a showgirl on each arm. He gave a very entertaining welcome to the Lab, including stories of his life as Lawyer to the Mob. The transition to mayor involved a pay cut from $2m a year to $48,000.
