Notes
An undeniably powerful concert where Crimson’s mettle was shone off to great effect. Often gigs are a series of parries and thrusts, where ground is slowly gained. Here, the band just charge ahead, unstoppable and assured without coming across as cocky or self-satisfied.
For Mastelotto this was “a great gig - smiles beaming all night - Ade decided to go without a lyric sheet for TCOL and when he fumbled (was it was me? or Trey? or Ade?) Robert almost fell of his stool laughing.” Of course there’s room for some other wonderful moments where things go awry but in doing so, add another layer of drama to the proceedings. During Vrooom the guitars cascade worryingly out of synch with each other, eventually coming good by the first fairy-fingers section. It’s a brilliant and endearing moment.
As in the last few nights, Virtuous Circle contains a short but sweet handsonic duet between Belew and Mastelotto, but the real highlight of the gig is a positively ferocious LTIA which has consistently been astonishing throughout the tour so far.
