Notes
With Sylvian and Fripp (then in its trio formation) taking a month off, The Robert Fripp String Quartet take to the road. This set, we’re informed, hails from a radio broadcast and contains many items of RFSQ repertoire which will be familiar. However, the second soundscape will raise a few earbrows even among those long-in-the-tooth RFSQ aficionados. Gunn and Fripp go head to head, creating a huge and awesome (in the original sense of the word) backdrop against which ideas are bounced back and forth between the pair of them. Crossing through a range of contrasting moods, fiery soloing from both players ensure this a hair-raising experience. Special mention must also be made of a delightful performance from Patricia Leavitt in the midst of the usual quality playing from Paul Richards Bert Lams and Hideyo Moriya.
