Notes
The next date in the Frippertronics tour calender had the small mobile intelligent unit scheduled to appear at the German offices of the record company. Whereas reels from other appearances are usually carefully annotated, without anything to go on other than an unmarked box, tying this music to this particular date is admittedly little more than guesswork on the part of ace DGM engineer, Alex Mundy. Although the ascribed location of this music might be speculative, the moods and atmospheres created over the course of 50-plus minutes are not. Perhaps most impressive is the rather ominous creep of Unknown IV and the quirkily fractured dance steps of Unknown V across which swarms of minor note dart and swerve before fading to an eerie conclusion.

An excellent recording, however, this is unlikely the tape from Munich 22 May 1979 because

  • "Unknown I" sounds like "1983" off "God Save the Queen",
  • "Unknown II" sounds like the track "God Save the Queen" off the same album,
  • "Unknown III" sounds like"1986" off "Let the Power Fall",
  • "Unknown IV" sounds like "Red Two Scorer" off "God Save the Queen" and
  • "Unknown V" sounds like the backing track to "Zero of the Signified" off "Under Heavy Manners".
(At least to my ears.) The speed is slightly lower on this recording.
According to the Frippertronics website, "Red Two Scorer", "God Save The Queen", "1986" and the backing track to "Zero of the Signified" were first recorded on 30 July 1979 and 1983 on July 25th. So this cannot be the show of May 22. Maybe a tape of suitable backing tracks for performance?

Nevertheless, wonderful music and a great opportunity to hear the backing track to "Zero of the Signified"!
