Notes
With Adrian Belew taken ill, the rest of the band decided that the show at the Birchmere, must go on. Thus on the third night of the third month of the third year in the new millennium (that’s a whole of threes going on there!) the other three members took to the stage to give an impromptu concert of improvisations and stripped back versions of the current repertoire.
After they’d finished, Trey, Pat and Robert came back on stage to answer a series of questions from the audience. Though the music and the Q&A were both officially recorded, when it came to compiling the Birchmere gig for release as part of the KCCC, the Q&A session was missing. We know Pat had a copy of the talk which he sampled and used in Crimson shows later in the tour.
The master however had vamoosed. Following an announcement on the DGMLive news page when the Birchmere gig was released, an audience recording of the Q&A was sent to us courtesy of the mighty Vargan.
So, now as a perfect compliment to the Birchmere gig, here’s that session which famously includes Robert playing Fracture accompanied only by Pat and Trey on handclaps and other percussive parts!
Be warned though, the sound quality is pretty grim with many of the questions almost inaudible. Nevertheless, it's a lot of fun and we're glad to have it available at long last.

12.20 Fripp Mobile HQ, Alexandria. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, it is very cold. Rising at 08.30, concerns over Adrian's health came to visit. So, a call to Tour Manager MJK to deal with this immediately. And a call to DGM HQ where a number of favourable reviews continue to arrive. 23.05 ProjeKct Three lives! The return of P3! The Reformation of P3 - with all the original members! Ade is languishing with Devil Disease, so P3 was called back into action at short notice. All our equipment programmes, particularly Pat's, have been dumped or left behind - we had not anticipated P3 being called into action on this tour. After Adrian's meeting with the Rock Doc, it became obvious to even this trouper that he couldn't perform. So, in the spirit of things, P3 got a `phone call. The unset-list was mostly forgotten or abandoned, and I have no idea how it went. After the playing, of around 70 minutes, the three members accepted questions from the generous & supportive audience, of whom Trey's mother was one.
