Notes
"Friday night. How do you feel? Alright? I know there's a lot of languages here so I'll just speak English" says our genial host for the evening. Of course the one language that everyone in the Centre for Fine Arts understands is music, and there's plenty of that tonight.
Writing on Elephant Talk, the gig was the second Crimson concert Erik Matthysen had seen. "...even though no new material was played (except for drum solos and ThrakAttak) the set was quite different from last year (9 new songs out of 20 played). Schizoid Man was an absolute highlight. The band played it as if they wrote the song themselves, and yet remained true to the original version. It fitted amazingly well with the rest of the material. A definite killer."
On the downside Erik notes from his position that there was "this woman who was clapping to "Sheltering Sky", to the point that many people were "ssshh"ing or started yelling by the end of the song. Clapping in simple 4/4 to a piece with a complex rhythm (as all KC music is) not only violates a basic element of KC but also spoils the fun for the rest of the audience."
On the plus side, she's not audible here on this recording!
A good show with a couple of interesting moments - Dinosaur gets slightly out of synch with itself and Elephant Talk comes complete with a surprise reprise! One suspects that some members of the band were more surprised than some members of the audience.
