Meanwhile back at the Palace Fripp whips up a storm during the third loop of the evening, introducing a more menacing tone early on amidst the relatively calm waters that have preceded it. One can only imagine the solos which must have dipped and dived across these choppy surfaces! There’s a notably different descending sequence introduced about half-way through the fourth loop and although it only appears briefly there’s a subtle shift in the feel of the piece, creating a breathing space almost in order to make way for whatever might be flying about the Parisian air that evening.
