Notes
Fripp’s first appearance in the UK in over a year took place in the laid back surroundings of the The Big Chill festival. Testing out the all-new solar voyager on the first of three days proved problematic and as a result his festival debut was not recorded. Happily, such bugs and gremlins were eradicated and the second day here was preserved for posterity – a fact which won’t be appreciated by Lisa Verrico of The Times who observed “Robert Fripp opened the festival and appeared on all three days, but his impact was minimal. Fifteen minutes into his Saturday set, folk were asking when he was starting. Fripp's feet were busy at effects pedals making wishy-washy ambient sounds, but his guitar was practically unplayed and anyone waiting for a tune was out of luck.” The toe-tapping tunes in question consist of slowly unfolding layers and soaring notes that Fripp had refined two months earlier whilst Soundscaping in America. And quite beautiful they are too.

World HQ.

So far, a grey day in Bredonborough.

More bird-events by the back of the house: Mrs. Pigeon is returning to the nest & feeding the weaker of its most recent two offspring (there have been two hatchings this year), who is unable to venture very far from the family home in the old espaliered pear tree. This morning, she was feeding it in the Olive Grove's largest pot, with mucho wing-action & slurping of the food-exchange.

In World HQ: listening to Soundscapes at The Ram's Head, Anapolis (11-vi-2005). Mostly, this holds together as an overall performance. Also, organising Office No. 3.

This afternoon: leaving at 15.00 for the second day of The Big Chill.

20.52 The Big Chill: an early evening performance today between 18.30-19.15. As they were unfolding, I felt the first 20 minutes were strong, although I distrust the performer's subjective view of an event. Some difficulty with Voyager I during the middle section, discovering a new variation on pilot error.

Ready For Lift-Off…

Backstage Looking Forwards…

Bill Chill Tent (Rear, Right)…

The Artists' Friend/s…

T was very supportive, once again, and with acute comments. John was a Hero: his right arm is in a sling with poisoned finger.

Lotsa photography.
