Notes
Showing no ill-effects from having lost his voice the previous night in Chicago, Adrian ploughs into Frying Pan with his usual vim and vocal vigour although songs requiring his singing are kept down to a minimum; TCOL and Elephant Talk. The major change to the set (in deference to Ade's vocal cords perhaps?) is the re-introduction of Vrooom and its Coda. Interesting to hear the truly beautiful but all-too brief Holst-like outro of Virtous Circle, adding to the mystery and dreamy quality of the piece, and an idea worth following up in its own right. Fripp burns the plank during the fast running lines of LTIA Pt IV and if the track didn’t quite have the magisterial gravitas in its studio-based incarnation, it certainly has found it on stage by now. From the pin-drop reverie of Thrush to the blasting dynamics of Level 5 and Red, the last 20 minutes of this concert represents classic Crimson at its best.
