Dig those crazy bongos! Here’s fascinating alternative assemblage of what would become Projekct X’s Heaven and Earth. The brainchild of Pat Mastelotto, Trey Gunn and engineer Bill Munyon, the working title for this track at this stage was Spy Kritters. Clearly it’s early days for this edit and it would be subjected to many hours of intensive tweaking and cutting in Nashville and Austin before it was ready. The final version was given its name by Fripp and was considered by many to be the stand-out track on 2000’s The ConstruKction of Light.

I would be one of those "many" who felt this was the best track on TCOL followed by FraKctured. I prefered the final version to this one til the blazing guitars began to scream about halfway through on this version! The added use of electronics & sampling (by Pat) I think would have been a new dimension & direction for KC to take at the time. Most people I know (including myself) liked the Project X cd better than TCOL. I think for that reason. It was KC but with a new "modern" twist. The H&E track seemed to strike just the right balance between the experimental edge of PX and what RF might want to release under the KC name. A "new" version/phase of the band continuing its history of re-invention & progression. In any event this is one awesome piece of music!
